| 1189122 | 2011-03-25 19:39:00 | Currently, many retailers are still using the older style eftpos machines that can take a while to process . All the places I have tried supports the chip . If you have a chip card, the strip way won't work, seen merchants try that before unless maybe if you type in the numbers like an internet purchase perhaps . . . . I read on the news that the old eftpos system has been pulled leaving some few hundreds of retailers out of action as they have chosen not to upgrade . I know from people that they upgraded like 2yrs ago :groan: |

| 1189123 | 2011-03-25 20:13:00 | I seem to remember its the encryption that takes a while amongst other things, the machines decrypt from chip, (read data) then process request, encrypts before sending then send the information. The machine ALSO verifies that it is connecting to a valid EPTPOS server (bit like an SSL certificate) I think thats the long part, confirming that the details were rihgt |
