1218490 2011-07-23 02:07:00 Hi folks

In CCleaner "Tools" one can click on "Drive wiper" and securely erase the contents or free space on a drive.

For a home PC what is the advantage of wiping free space on a drive. It takes many hours - is it worth it?

1218491 2011-07-23 02:15:00 If you want to wipe the whole hdd (obviously you cant do this on the OS hdd), Use Dban instead. But this will wipe any partitions too (If you use Dban). And it'll take a while (with DBan, depending on the size of the hdd)

It'll probably take longer if you select 35 passes (in ccleaner, depending on how big the hdd is). I've never used this option myself (in ccleaner).

I just quick format the spare partitions on this (If I have to)

I do not want to wipe the whole HDD but just curious about wiping free space on the drive - is it worth doing and what are the advantages.

1218493 2011-07-23 02:20:00 That function is to ensure that deleted files can't be read. Useful if you are selling/giving the disk/computer away.

Or have naughty deleted files to clear!!!!!

1218494 2011-07-23 02:23:00 I dont use that option under tools, but I do use the option (under options/settings). And changed it to 35 passes. So, once I delete something its gone for good Speedy Gonzales (78)
