1188374 2011-03-22 06:20:00 Hey people,

As you know I host the imagef1 site and as you also know it's no longer there. Reason being that last week a person(s) in turkey found a hole in the security and went to town on the server. So as a result I won't be hosting the site anymore unless it is heavily recoded (I get in big trouble for bringing down 200 odd sites on a server :horrified )

I have tried contacting Dannz who build the site originally, well as far as I know, but have yet to hear back so I'm taking matters into my own hands.

I have spoken to a few people and have been recommended a script called Ktools Photohost. I have looked into it and believe it will do the trick but it does come at a price (US$90) which I am willing to pay but would mean some changes to the way things have been done.

Forum users will still be able to upload images freely but may have to create an account to upload. Viewing images will still be fine for anyone, unless the image uploader doesn't want them shared.

Because the site would be a bit more complex than the current imagef1 I would also have paid membership available for those who want to create portfolios etc. But these costs would only be enough to cover server costs. So really it could work out the more paying members the lower the cost.

What do you regular users of imagef1 think? For majority I doubt much would change for you except having to login. I may be able to get around that though if necessary.

For the record I'm not tryin to make money out of this at all, only trying to provide an imagef1 that is both good for you and the server ;)

Appreciate any input...

1188375 2011-03-22 06:32:00 I have a mate who just worked on a really good photo upload script (wrote it ground up). i'll get you a copy if you want. works on every platform that I have ever come across, its java based and has tagging ability. The Error Guy (14052)
1188376 2011-03-22 06:34:00 Definitely interested but security is hugely necessary. What does it have in the way of that? hueybot3000 (3646)
1188377 2011-03-22 06:45:00 ImageF1 was more relevant when the forum didn't allow image uploads. Now that we can do that in vBulletin itself, I don't really see the point anymore. somebody (208)
1188378 2011-03-22 06:49:00 Not exactly sure, it should be relatively good. If not then he'll challenge himself to add some.

Just wondering, what type of exploit was executed on imagef1?

1188379 2011-03-22 06:54:00 Not entirely sure what hit the server but it was deleting index files. Very Very annoying.

Perhaps we should vote for whether or not we need an imagef1? I see somebody's point, and although vbulletin allows image uploads they are hardly generous with space.

Error Guy, Im interested to know more but will need to check out the security first. I could even look at building one myself or rebuilding what we have but just dont have the time!

1188381 2011-03-22 07:07:00 I think that with the plethora of other sites we can use like photobucket, flickr etc we probably don't need ImageF1 any more. We also can upload images via vBulletin as has already been said.

Therefore I vote not to keep ImageF1.

1188382 2011-03-22 07:12:00 ImageF1 is sort of a thing of the past sadly. It isn't really needed anymore. goodiesguy (15316)
