Whether I hook it up to my HDTV via HDMI or just try to use the netbook screen itself to watch a 720P vid using VLC, the image stutters, freezes and pixellates. Are there features that need to be turned on or is my netbook just not up to the task? Here's the hardware specs, 1.6Ghz AMD Dual Core Processor E-350 , 1MB L2 Cache) 4GB DDR3 Ram 500GB Hard drive (I swapped this out with an Intel 40GB SSD). | 1218819 | 2011-07-24 12:38:00 | I find VLC not so good anymore, ie making more demands on computer, my Pentium III laptop can show DVD's or avi's directly to a TV which it does quite well, and it is on XP and 1Ghz with 375MB ram, *shame*. Try this version of MPC home cinema: www.majorgeeks.com it's just been cleaned up and is working like it used to again. |

| 1218821 | 2011-07-24 19:41:00 | it's possible the graphics isn't powerful enough to accelerate video playback or .vlc isn't using it.that cpu is too slow to do it alone. on the other hand even an atom based pc can do 1080p with sufficient graphics acceleration . | dugimodo (138) | ||

| 1218823 | 2011-07-24 21:13:00 | I've done 720p h.264 decoding from a single-core 1.6Ghz Atom without *any* GPU acceleration. The CoreAVC codec helps a lot, it's worth forking a couple of bucks for it, and use it with MPC-HC. |

| 1218824 | 2011-07-25 05:07:00 | m parents have an HP DM1Z notebook, probably the same as yours? It plays back 720 content fine. It also depends on the bitrate. You shouldn't need to use CoreAVC, the Radeon should have hardware decoding. Depending on which VLC version you are using, it might not support hardware acceleration. |
