| 1190311 | 2011-03-29 22:37:00 | Should Ak ratepayers pay rate increases for Rugby games?? ie the RWC games move from CHCH to Eden Park Also the claimed benifts to Ak in $$, seem to just have been numbers pulled out of the air. This is what really annoys me. has anyone seen a true, independent cost/return analysis ?? it seems, not that long ago that it was being claimed that most large Sports events of this sort ALLWAYS run at a loss for the host city. Why is it that when the ARC lost all those millions on the one-off Beckham Soccer game , they were ridiculed for doing so, but rugby is OK for City Councills to spend millions on. Wheres the IRB's extra contribution to help out ?? I think , in reality, most of Ak arnt rugby mad anymore & dont really care one way or they other. Most of Akers wont be going to any of these games. 10 years ago it may have been a different attitude by the Ak public, but most of the people I know honestly no longer really care. Even those who in past were rugby followers. |

| 1190312 | 2011-03-29 22:45:00 | Ummmmm. Had you not noticed that Local bodies / Government have this annoying habit of spending our money and not their money? In Tokoroa they are in the process of spending 5.6 million on a sport stadium and convention centre. From what I see we have enough sports grounds to cater for demand and I can't remember the last time anyone convened anything here. |

Spending millions on a new community Swimming Pool , located 5 minutes from the beach, several beaches actually. A better spend would be many smaller pools at or next to schools or actually spend that money fixing drainage & sewage - hardly a fun project for city councilors to get behind. :yuck: |

| 1190314 | 2011-03-29 23:22:00 | One of the MAJOR issues here is public toilets for some reason. We do have swimming pools ( Council owned ) and I do agree that people need to learn to swim and maybe there will be less drowning. Perhaps trying to teach common sense at an early age may help but I feel you can't teach that one. ""Yeah , I was taught gun safety . Gun safety up to the eyeballs It never stopped me or my friends doing stupid things with our slug guns when we were young. You cant teach common sense & considering consequences of your actions before you act. That has to be learnt the hard way unfortunately."" From the other thread. It seems we agree. :) |

Where do you think the money for most of the roads comes from: hint, where is the biggest population base. just how did NZ get hoodwinked into paying millions for the RWC. All the profits will go back to the UK. |

All the profits will go back to the UK. Used to fly into the "biggest population base" 4 times a year and was always glad to get away from the perpetual traffic delays. Once the clog has been rectified ! perhaps the additional tax will be taken off the price of fuel, lol. Played "amateur rugby" for years, so don't worry, it p i s s e s me off to see the game become so so professional, that players' can't even return home when there is a disaster. Lurking. |

There is more to making cash off the world cup besides ticket sales and subscriptions. |
