It's quite appropriate really because last night on Graham Norton he had that chef "Heston" who reckoned that within the next 10 years the Western world would be eating a lot more insects - "They're a good source of protein and taste nice"! Also, we've had Karl Pilkinton in China on "An Idiot Abroad" . Personally, I can't see anything wrong with it, as long as they're nice and crispy. However, I can see that pus squirting out might put some people off! :horrified |

Only insects I'll be eating are ones that happen to be in my food by accident and I don't know they're there... Other than that, can't stand even the sight of someone else eating them... don't know why, I find insects quite fascinating otherwise. Pretty colours too, some of them. |

I had trouble controlling my flight/fight auto-reflex when just looking at them. :D Others at my table crunched on them and assured me they tasted like fish. The body meat was solid, so no nasty liquid 'squirts'. Someone else ordered 'wild forest red ant soup' which was full of ants and said they were OK too. Cambodians eat stuff like that because during the Khmer Rouge regime with Pol Pot that was all they had at times. Our tour guide was a young boy (aged 7) at the time, and got sent to work as a human scarecrow in the fields - he caught and ate crickets so he didn't starve. The 'fluffy cat' menu was seen in Chiang Rai (Far Northern Thailand). I was in that area during the recent 6.8 Burma/Thai earthquake and was not impressed with the swaying/creaking on my 12th floor hotel room as Thai building standards are somewhat different to NZ's. :xmouth: |
