2011-08-01 08:33:00 | Some time ago I posted here asking for programs to track data usage, and Networx was recommended. However it turns out this isn't good enough for my brother; we each have 375MB to use each day, however he somehow uses to use 6GB on the first day having his new laptop (and nearly 1GB today)! We need a system which cuts him off once the limit is reached: how can we achieve this? (Router is a Linksys WAG120N)

2011-08-01 11:04:00 | I think you need a new router for that, but someone else here might have some ideas. I'm glad Vodafone upped my cap to 90GB - 3 people using Steam, Youtube & Skype blows the cap in no time. I'm up to 108GB this month & thankfully have not been slowed down.

2011-08-01 21:33:00 | I've discovered Networx can run a program when a certain level is reached, so we could run a program that turns off the wifi... | pcuser42 (130) | |
2011-08-01 21:56:00 | you could get a script written that disables wifi, I got one that mutes my speakers. | nedkelly (9059) | |
2011-08-02 00:47:00 | What about a script that plays Friday on continuous loop   | pcuser42 (130) | |
2011-08-02 00:56:00 | that could be possible | nedkelly (9059) | |
2011-08-02 04:01:00 | Fork out for a WRT54GL. Turn the WiFi off on your WAG120N, and have him use the WRT54GL. Flash Gargoyle onto it. It enforces quotas based on MAC Address, so even if he happens to go and boot a Live Linux OS, he still can't get around it. Spoofing the MAC address is also possible, but most people aren't that clever ;)

2011-08-02 07:55:00 | Does Gargoyle carry over unused data over to the next day? It doesn't matter if it doesn't, that's still an option we'll think about. | pcuser42 (130) | |
2011-08-02 21:08:00 | No, it doesn't, but you can set either an hourly, daily, weekly or monthly cap. | Chilling_Silence (9) | |
