Is it really just me, being an older person, but do others have the same problem of not recognizing what some of the TV announcers say.

Whether it be news or adverts, I think that some of them either cannot speak clearly, or they just talk so fast, it just sounds like a lot of "yatter".
Surely if they wish to be understood at all, they need to slow down a little so we can all get the jist of what is being spoken!
That is my vent for today!

1191634 2011-04-03 07:52:00 I can't believe how so many professional speakers i.e reporters get away with so many umms, ahhs and erms in each sentence. I actually know someone here in Nelson who used to teach reporters how to speak Retired about 10 years ago and he is disgusted with the level of incompetence in our current batch of reporters gary67 (56)

1191636 2011-04-03 08:01:00 The girl interviewer who interviewed Siobhan on the U channel the other day, was particularly appalling!
I really felt sorry for Siobhan in the way she was spoken to, as if she was a three year old.

1191637 2011-04-03 08:08:00 Its got that bad for us we don't watch free to air channels anymore. We get all our news from CNN, Fox, BBC or the internet. It's not only NZ reporters, it's interviewees too. Um, um, you know. Not only the um's, it's other words that they decide to pronounce completely wrong, such as knowen (known) that's only one of many. I've had people who have seen some of the interviews on TV overseas ask me if people really speak like that. I could only say Yes. If it's on TV by so called professional journalists, then it's open slather for everyone Phil B (648)
1191638 2011-04-03 09:05:00 I heartily agree, but if you think you have problems, spare a thought for the new arrivals who are not used to the kiwi accent. For them it is not only the accent but the speed at which it is delivered. Very hard for them, indeed. Roscoe (6288)
1191639 2011-04-03 09:06:00 So many could do with some Elocution Lessons(or may be just Electrocution). It is absolutely terrible listening to some of them. mikebartnz (21)

I don't have any problems hearing what they are saying, and I have an ear with no eardrum .
