1191542 2011-04-03 00:57:00 I recently got a item put on hire purchase. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I can't afford the payments.

Am I able to get out of the hp agreement within 7 days of the hp purchase?

1191543 2011-04-03 01:04:00 Not 100% sure, but would be a pretty piss poor company that wouldn't let you. You could probably expect to incur a fee of some sort. Have you received the goods yet. I did cancel a hp 10 years ago because the wait for the goods was longer then they told me with no problems. That was with NL before they used GE plod (107)

Do you think the outfit would look better with a ring?

1191550 2011-04-03 23:45:00 I assume that your contract didn't carry an insurance policy which protects you if your circumstances change - e.g. loose your job, have an accident, etc.

Check the fine print of your contract to find out as it's quite common for it to be included in HP agreements, especially if it's a high value item.

the law allows you a three-day "cooling off" period after you sign the contract to change your mind and cancel the contract .

Modifying the contract in cases of "hardship"

You can ask the lender to change the terms of the contract if you believe you are unable to keep up with the payments under the contract because of some unforeseen hardship - such as being ill or injured, or losing your job, or your relationship breaking up, or the death of your spouse or partner, or some other reasonable cause . However, you can't do this if you've already missed a payment or exceeded a credit limit .

If the lender doesn’t agree to amend the contract, you can apply to the Courts or a Disputes Tribunal for it to amend the contract . The Court or Tribunal will give both you and the lender a reasonable chance to be heard .

I pretty sure you can cancel the HP by returning the goods . You are still
liable for any associated loss's . Not sure if this law in vaild ??
Like a voluntary repocession
