1220373 2011-08-01 08:45:00 Hi All,

I can only access my PC's and NAS device on my local network via IP address rather than their hostnames. Any ideas on how I can fix this? :groan:

Cheers.

1220375 2011-08-01 09:14:00 Where should it be pointing to?
Just a note, I'm running Win7 Pro 64bit.

1220376 2011-08-01 09:37:00 Are all the PC's in the same workgroup ?

While it shouldn't really matter as much with W7 often this can be a cause.

If you go into "network" Click start / network (on the right) are the PC's shown there ?

1220378 2011-08-01 09:53:00 All PC's are on the homegroup network.
No PC's on the LAN when I got to network Wainui....

Other PC's on the LAN work when accessing via hostnames....

Nope..

1220381 2011-08-01 10:20:00 Sounds a little like W7's Homegroup is the problem.

To test this, if you remove two PC's from the homegroup, and run the older style Networking /LAN , then they should show in the the Network, and connect Via their names. If you have a PC in homegroup, it by passes the Normal LAN type connections ( not quote the right way to explain it, but best i can come up with at the moment :D )

What are the make up of the PC's Eg: only W7 can use Homegroup
