| 1193567 | 2011-04-11 06:05:00 | "The Government is looking at a radical revamp of the eight Crown research institutes in a cost-cutting and efficiency drive. It is understood the most far-reaching option being discussed would mean the eight institutes were merged into three super-CRIs. " These it is understood will be called DSIR1, DSIR2, and DSIR3. As this is rather cumbersome, eventually it will be known as just DSIR. www.stuff.co.nz It is also rumoured that the Government may be considering merging the electrical companies into a new conglomerate to be called New Zealand Electricity Department, or, NZED :p  |

That's fine, as long as it doesn't end up like the last one did, with all the money concentrated in Head Office on Lambton Quay, where very important little men run around in suits inventing procedures to make life miserable for bench scientists doing real work. Back then, when there was a 10% budget cut, those of us outside HO had to make 15% cuts to keep the HO wallahs in their jobs in their fancy multi-storey building, with their gymnasium in the basement. When the last DSIR folded, I jumped for joy at the loss of the jobs of those horrible little men, whom we never saw again. |
