| 1193018 | 2011-04-12 05:46:00 | Hi SJ Yeah, I was being mischievous, tho' haven't there been reports of "favours" (or in your dialect "favors") being offered in exactly those circumstances . I thought I'd got you with the word "debarked" in your first post, but apparently yours was a ligit use . By the way, did you get your signature from a Japanese nuclear power worker ;) I used the word 'DEBARKED'? Odd . That's not on my word-to-learn list for this week . lol I got my sig from the fallout that is raining all over California right now - and has for the past week or so . We have their radioactive iodine in our milk now . Not in seriously dangerous levels, whatever THAT is . But ANY radioactive iodine is too much methinks . I am almost sure that the Gummermint will tell us when it reaches glow-in-the-dark-read-by-your-own-bio luminescence levels - right? I mean - they WILL - right? |

| 1193019 | 2011-04-12 05:47:00 | Surely 50 years of astute British and International viewing public can't be wrong??!! :groan: I refute that - emphatically! I have not as of this date watched BBC-TV for more than the past two or three years . |

| 1193020 | 2011-04-12 06:08:00 | You may be right if the USA constitution can be overidden by another act . Seems strange the yanks would have done that . 'Yanks' didn't . The President and his buddies did . The President has many powerful options - but this one happened in a midnight or dark-room session with very few people in attendance and certainly wasn't in an open, popular-voted session . Homeland Security is touted as a necessary evil - not my words . |

I was aiming that remark at Zipity's reference to Coronation Street . I had the misfortune to see the first ever episode! Some otherwise very intelligent people get hooked on it unfortunately . I don't think Rehab units are quite sophisticated enough to get them off it - it's a very complex affliction! |

I was gonna NOT go near Coronation Street (ChCh?) if I ever get there for just the fear of getting trampled by a king or a count. Or a peon. |

| 1193024 | 2011-04-12 06:43:00 | I thought some marriages were a rather long-ish soap opera too. Never did I ever see or know about this TV series. We get Top Gear, The BBC News (the Americas' Version), Rumpole, Dr Who, old copies of The Avengers and some Sherlock Holmes with Sir Basil Rathbone - I think. Since Fawlty Towers is gone as is Red Green (Canadian) I gave up a lot of Brit TV - Oh - Rising Damp runs sporadically. Let's not even talk about that fat misanthropic misogynous slob Benny Xxxx (I can't even say his last name since the vomitorium is closed for repairs!). |

| 1193025 | 2011-04-12 06:58:00 | The right to bear arms is idiotic, it should be a privilege easily revoked at the slightest sign of antisocial behaviour. The type of people who think they should have the right to own a gun, especially a handgun, are very often the exact people who should NOT be allowed to own one. The more people have guns the more people get shot. That right |

| 1193026 | 2011-04-13 15:57:00 | UPDATE--- abclocal.go.com SACRAMENTO (KABC) -- The controversy over gun control is heating up in Sacramento. State legislators are considering a bill that would prohibit people from openly carrying unloaded handguns in public. "Open Carry" legislation was the topic at the Capitol Tuesday. Representatives from both sides showed up to publicly defend their position. A bill is reigniting the debate over gun control in California. The Los Angeles City Council recently threw its support behind a statewide open-carry ban. That proposal has cleared its first hurdle. :devil Related Content ::: Story: California State Assembly members told to check guns at door (abclocal.go.com) :devil The controversy began when open-carry advocates started gathering in public places like coffee shops and restaurants around California with their unloaded weapons exposed. While perfectly legal, the protest against gun control laws made some passers-by uncomfortable. "I think that you're asking for trouble if you're walking around with an exposed weapon on your hip," said Yvonne Douglas, a pedestrian. The California Assembly Public Safety Committee took the first step in banning the practice of open-carry in California for most people, making it a misdemeanor offense punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. "It's just too close for comfort for average Californians. You don't need a weapon to buy a cheeseburger," said state Assm. Anthony Portantino (D-La Canada Flintridge). "Proliferation of sidearms should be in a Western movie, not Main Street California." Often the open-carry protests prompt concerned citizens to call police, who say the gatherings drain their already-stretched departments. "A gun in a public setting has to be viewed by a police officer as a threat. And as such, it take our resources away to deal with that threat," said Emeryville Police Chief Ken James, representing the California Police Chiefs Association. But open-carry supporters say the ban is unconstitutional, pointing out the Second Amendment gives them the right to bear arms to protect themselves. "It is critical during states of emergency that people have the ability to defend themselves when police are not available," said Alany Herman Toller, Gun Owners of California. Nicole Stallard says she needs a gun to protect herself because attack rates on transgender people are high. "[Calling] 911 gets you police in minutes. In the meantime, you're dead or beaten," said Nicole Stallard, Northern California Pink Pistols. The proposal heads to the Appropriations Committee next. A similar bill last year cleared several committee but failed to get to then-Gov. Schwarzenegger's desk by the deadline. |
