1193962 2011-04-13 10:06:00 Doesnt mean everyone still uses IRC for sending files. You can chat in IRC you know

And that sir would be my point. Go and look at what I quoted in post #16.

1193963 2011-04-13 10:08:00 then it's your fault you suck balls at protecting your network.

BTW you can prove things like that.

No matter how secure your wifi network is, if a hacker has the patience and brain power to hack it, he'll hack it.

there is a big if there. It's called hiding your SSID and running conections through specified address's only.

I did. I see where you're coming from. They'll probably know what site you're getting it from (whatever you get).

So, will probably know what the torrent is (if its legal) But, like I said IRC servers probably have stuff all files, so whats there to regulate

People would rather use P2P programs, download whatever, then get infected instead. Thats what they get for doing it

1193966 2011-04-13 10:33:00 If I purchase a game, and the CD rots in 10 years time or gets broken, I expect to be able to download a new copy from bittorrent under 'fair use' (seriously, who can really say there's anything wrong with that?)

However I'd get my Internet connection banned for being a pirate

Also, I don't want people spying on me, who does? This is a load of rubbish, pushed by the MAFIAA, the government wouldn't care if the media goons didn't.

And then of course we get to the final point that this won't stop piracy, all it'll do is push it further underground, and make it harder to detect!

How little you know.. Hidden SSIDs don't do jack, and MAC and IP addresses can be easily spoofed.

I agree with what you have said 100%.

You took the words outta my mouth.

So where is this fair use policy mentioned in NZ law?

Or, for that matter, in any law anywhere?

As to spying I take it you have not noticed cameras put up in the CBD?

1193969 2011-04-13 10:47:00 They'll probably know what site you're getting it from (whatever you get) .

Sites have nothing to do with torrents or IRC, IRC only provides a method of communication for the client to the bot-host - the IRC channels & servers have nothing to do with it at all .

The only way they would know is if they check what is being transfered - because there is no centralization for either torrents or IRC - this brings in massive overheads who will pay for this?

Seeing as most warez files are now in some way compressed and password protected it's very hard to prove anything other than suspicion (which would mostly be correct) however . For example, the last time I use MegaUploads it was to get a mod for Rome Total War (77BC & 58BC - bloody awesome they are!!), however if my ISP decided it did not like traffic from a known warez source and decides to flag me for it .

Will they chase after everyone - that's a lot of data to process .

Now, Rapidshare provides SSL transfers . So how does the ISP know anything in that case?
Is telecom going to play man in the middle? Or would it rather just block the service?

And lastly, another thought .
Will enforcing this be in the best interest of the ISPs? If the pirates pay 100$ a month now for 150gb traffic, when they use less traffic they will pay less and **** down on their plans and pay 40$ a month instead .

Doesn't matter, under common sense it's obvious that getting a replacement copy for something you already paid for is hardly stealing or immoral.

Common sense? Where did you find that?

It does still matter as if you were to be charged under the new law then I very much doubt that you could mount a defence that would be successful.
