1193305 2011-04-10 07:07:00 Transport? It sucks. It's not so bad if you only need to travel one zone or so, and at normal business hours but travelling from say West to South sucks, it's expensive, involves more than one transport vehicle, takes forever, eve taking into account the slowness of driving.

When public transport ends up more expensive than driving by car even at current extortionary rates something is very wrong.

The last bus would be at midnight. (471,472)
Last train is 11:30 I think.

It's one stage I think so $1.80.

It is very wrong, indeed!

It's because this nation is broke. We have no money to buy/do anything that is constructive other than paying big salaries /allowances to those greedy politicians. Even if (only if) we have the money, what can you expect from this bunch of politicians? Can they manage it?

1193308 2011-04-10 10:50:00 Based on your budget, I think it would be lucky if you can find somewhere to stay in Mt Eden or Mt Albert area.

Ask Speedy if he is keen to take on a flatmate :D :p

1193310 2011-04-10 12:05:00 Well . . . thinking about Welly .

Me thinks look into classifieds and non english newspapers if you know someone . Some of the non contractual rentals are advertised that way . They may want a larger deposit . B/c they are not done thru the proper way, you may not have equal treatment if the landlord chooses that path . . .

Yeah . . . that budget can be very tight . Apartments will cost more than a room . Welly city stds, non contract as an idea cost $100/week is at the low end for a bathroom sized room, living with flatmates shared kitchen/toilet/bathroom etc . A proper sized room prob cost $120-140 a week in a shared environment . A all apartment to yourself . . . . hmm . . . . . Maybe you can have a studio apartment then maybe push up your price a bit . . . and it's Auckland .

1193311 2011-04-10 12:15:00 The driving part - well there is cost assoc. with city carpark lease or the exorbiant daily rates. And maybe residential parking permits. WOF, rego, typres and stuff. Insurance. Me thinks at least $2-3k a year then the petrol cost.

For your criteria, this should give you an idea.

No one has mentioned about the corporate fee right .. or whatever it's called. To clear the rubbish etc, provide a bit of security .... isn't it usually $25 a week or something on top of the rental?

In many cases the landlord will pay the body corp fees and simply build it in to the rental, but you'd want to confirm before signing any agreement that the landlord is responsible for the body corp fees.

1193313 2011-04-10 23:14:00 You might be able to find a studio apartment in or around the city for that price, but it'll be a shoebox. If you want a bedroom separate to your living room you're looking at another $100 on top of that at least.

I did a quick TradeMe property search for listings under $250 pw and there are a few. Not sure if the link will work for you but here: www.trademe.co.nz
