1194093 2011-04-15 04:12:00 Just use a VPN if you are insistent on using bittorrent. Otherwise there are a lot of secure alternatives.

I wonder whether this would be a defence in the tribunal:

You are caught sharing files, getting 3 warnings and taken to the tribunal, just say that your wireless must have been compromised or something because you don't secure it. Then just 0 your HDD. I'm pretty sure it would cost more than 15k to get any data of a nuked or 0'd drive.

1194094 2011-04-15 04:32:00 The bottom line here is technology and users will ALWAYS move faster and further than the stupid law-makers and copyright whingers trying to keep up.

It just can't work.

1194096 2011-04-15 04:45:00 Yes i was indicating it was crap and removed it from someones pc yesterday that had alot of malware...surprise
Sorry the second part was a question. And i dont smoke

EDIT: Like you are stating no matter what they do someone will get around it.

Yep yep agree would never use it myself lol, I listed it as a P2P example but offered no opinion on it as it was outside the scope of what I was posting.

Bit like the twilight zone the way people go off on tangents in some of these threads.

1194097 2011-04-15 07:15:00 Just wondering, if you were seeding a pirated piece of digital stuff (software games music etc) how would this affect you. I'm not sure if I read it right but as far as my skim read got me I only see a punishment for acquiring pirated material and having it in possession.

I'm probably wrong though

Can't be that high, sure there have been some good music and movies to come out of NZ but if you look at TV shows....

1194100 2011-04-15 09:10:00 I think artist saying they think it's a good thing , is all a front . Behind the scene they probably don't like, but the 'publishing house' says "Don't worry , we'll take care of it" . Publishing houses would come after anyone either way , since they have more stake in it .

If the bill is to make US 'media' companies happy , then hopefully they'll sell tv rights to TVNZ/TV3/etc abit cheaper . There's many show not being aired here :(

1194101 2011-04-15 13:18:00 It's most definitely workable, but specifically through the likes of P2P (emule / bearshare / limewire) and bittorrent. If somebody were to email you a file, there's significantly less chance of you being "found out". Same for Usenet.

ISP's are allowed to turn a blind eye, they're not obliged to report users that have a higher data utilization than others to anybody, and so I would presume they won't bother. More data chewed through means more money for them (for the better part).
