| 1194052 | 2011-04-14 08:18:00 | This is how I understand it - if I download a TV show for example, its up to the broadcaster/owner of the show (say NBC) to say "Hey Telecom, this guy's torrenting my show!" TBH I don't think the likes of NBC would care that someone in little old NZ is downloading their show, rather that its being downloaded by millions of others worldwide... is this reasoning right? Will ISPs monitor their own clients or is it entirely up to the copyright owner to put their hand up and say? | jwil1 (65) | ||

| 1194054 | 2011-04-14 08:43:00 | Will ISPs monitor their own clients No, ISP's benefit greatly from Piracy in New Zealand due to the sale of extra data. The loss of income from policing there own clients would be enormous and very poor business. The new law is basically smoke and mirrors just so the NZ government can been seen to be doing something. |

| 1194057 | 2011-04-14 09:17:00 | I'm guessing this is designed to target those who torrent the hell out of movies and the like. I download hub episodes off of youtube and megaupload, and the makers have said they're not bothered if people download them. As long as they don't take those off me, I'm not bothered. | 8ftmetalhaed (14526) | ||

Never again... For once, I gotta admit I totally agree with Battleneter2 ;) |

Anyone who is always downloading and uploading huge amounts is bound to be looked at first, esp if it via torrents or file sharing programs . Then again some do have high usage any way - depending on what it is . Take for example today - I pulled through over 7 GB by lunch :waughh: it was a server OS , along with office standard and a few other general bits and bobs, all from Microsofts technet and volume license site - all completely legit and legal . Sh1t on a good month I can top my limit of 80GB with customers updates, program downloads -- ALL 100% legal . |

| 1194060 | 2011-04-14 11:00:00 | I did almost 5GB the other day just on the latest "ISE design suite" from Xilinx... Why it needs to be so big I have no idea... | Agent_24 (57) | ||
| 1194061 | 2011-04-14 11:13:00 | Yep, some programs are huge. Was looking at another one today - 6.5GB SB Server 2011 , then another 500MB in the Client Restore Disc -- but dont want to go ripping through to much of may data so early in the new lot, it adds up quick. One thing that no one has mentioned (so I can see) its going to be "interesting" when cloud computing comes more into play - internet usage is going to sky rocket in some places. The ISP's may get busy -- More job positions available maybe ? -- Geat Tui's ad :D |
