1193096 2011-04-09 04:03:00 I've got an ESP Ltd B-404, with two EMG soapbar pickups. Haven't got anything other than a Boss TU-3 tuner pedal at the moment, but I'm in the market for a pedal of some sort, I like the Boss Stompbox gear so probably one of those.

The sound at the moment isn't very 'round', it's a bit bland. I'm after something more like in this (www.youtube.com)song, around 2:00 onwards is a good part to hear. I'm not very clued up on bass effects, is that sound something that can be re-produced with the right pedal, (a small amount of overdrive maybe?) or is it more just the sound of that particular bass?

Thanks guys. ;)

1193097 2011-04-09 06:51:00 I have a similar bass, been using podfarm software for it, can pretty much change it to anything you want, but means youll be using a laptop when you play live.
A decent amp and a couple of pedals should see you right.
When i get home Ill send a line up of what I got. Also your tone setting on your guitar will make a huge difference

1193099 2011-04-09 18:29:00 I am awake now . Here's what I do:::

I use my MXR80 Bass +DI for exactly that purpose . ( . jimdunlop . com/product/m80-bass-di" target="_blank">www . jimdunlop . com)

Once I bought this I was flabbergasted at it's ability to pump areas to fullness that I thought was only possible with a Compressor/Limiter, although I have one of them too .

The Sansamp ( . tech21nyc . com/products/sansamp/images/bassdriverdi_image . jpg" target="_blank">www . tech21nyc . com) unit is totally bogus to me, as it does not have the same abilities . It works, but in a more limited way .

Here's my FX Board:: ( . googleusercontent . com/_cRmowvPKcq4/TYgn6nk-_GI/AAAAAAAAHbs/7fGHNFfGdzU/s640/100_7746 . JPG" target="_blank">lh5 . googleusercontent . com)

The MXR can always be counted on to get me out of a bad spot too - besides the DI capacity, it has three distinct channels that includes a 'Get Out Of Jail" card in a preset that you can hit with just one switch so you can always get decent sound if you screw up and mess with something too much .

Kinda a reset or legacy setting if you will .

I can grind, crunch and flat out get nasty and dark with the MXR and yet get the most subtle effects too from the same unit .

I also like the clean parallel output for sending a clean, unaltered signal to a different preamp or separate head when I need it . I also use that for a direct out to my tuner pedal with no insertion losses or noise .

One of the greatest reason to use the MXR is it is absolutely transparent when I want it to be with a true noiseless/colorless bypass .

1193102 2011-04-13 01:00:00 Nice.

SJ - I can see plenty on Ebay, but out of interest if you were going to buy one, how much would you pay? Getting one from a reputable store here is $570 NZD, seems a little on the dear side when you can get a brand new one off Ebay for $139 USD. :D

1193103 2011-04-13 01:31:00 $139.00 USD is the going rate here.

$570.00 NZD??????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????

Talk to the hand!

What's the tax if I send one to you?

My thoughts exactly. :p

Well maximum tax is 15%, but you can sometimes get away with it if the contents of the package are under $1000.

It seems I should be able to get a brand new pedal to NZ for under $250NZD excl any possible taxes.

Guitar center look as they are out of stock, I found ProAudioLand from Ebay (cgi.ebay.com wItemQQ_trksidZp5197.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26it u%3DUCI%26otn%3D2%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8 414191501392260677), do you know if they are any good?

Does guitarcentre or similar ship internationally? Or failing that, would you be willing to buy one and send it over? I'm more than happy to pay you any extra you want for your time, buying things from Ebay and shipping them internationally is a bit of a pain.
