1194410 2011-04-26 12:14:00 Just some laser cut acrylic, front and back panels for a couple of electronics projects and a customized enclosure for the Ice Tube Clock (www.ladyada.net) Agent_24 (57)
1194411 2011-04-26 12:54:00 Fun. Good luck with it then. The Error Guy (14052)
1194412 2011-04-26 13:06:00 Yeah I hope it works too...

I did as much research as I could, I'm pretty confident it'll be OK. But I guess there is nothing else to do but wait and see!

1194413 2011-05-04 22:41:00 Well it took a while but finally everything is done.

I actually got my order a week ago but there was an error with one of my files and everything came out too big.

They re-cut (for free) and I got the replacement this morning, which is perfect! - They might not be cheap, but they do have good service!

For anyone interested in the technical aspects of the problem (in case you want to make sure this doesn't happen to you) - this is what they said:

*Scaling issue*

This is a peculiarity with Inkscape - raw SVG files saved in Inkscape will scale up by 20% when opened in Illustrator (which we use to send to the laser cutters).

Our Ponoko Inkscape templates contain a line of code which averts this issue, and maintains the same dimensions when the file is saved in Inkscape and then opened in Illustrator.

From time to time we have people who run into that line of code being lost, despite using the template - we haven't been able to correlate exactly what the cause of this tends to be yet, as it happens so rarely and we haven't located a common element.

Usually we spot this scaling issue when looking over the design - particularly when the template is used, but on even rarer occasions such as this it slips past us.

We're working on a post with more details about the scaling issue, and how to check an SVG file within Inkscape to see if it is scaled correctly for other programs or not.

The way to fix this with files such as yours is to open your incorrectly scaled design, unlock the template layer, delete everything that is not part of your design and resave it. Now start with a fresh template file, import your file with only your design content and lay it out on the new template. Save this file and it should be correct.
