2011-08-10 05:12:00 | Cant remember Xnet doing one on me. And in Telstra's contract all its got is whether I was working or not. Nothing financial. I think they wanted some form of ID which I dont have. Only a passport, which is over 15 yrs old | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2011-08-10 05:21:00 | Hmmm, how far do you want to go on this issue... According to the UN (of which NZ is a founding member), it is your Human Right to have access to the Internet (because it is considered vital in ensuring your freedom of expression). SO, my question is... can you be stopped from having access to the internet, wouldnt an ISP be acting against your human rights by denying you access regardless of your credit rating. Just an angle that would have a very interesting outcome!!

Don't know never heard of this before. I would also try several ISP's. |

2011-08-10 05:38:00 | Wow, never heard of this either. They can make you pay the month in advance so I really don't see the problem there, if you're not paying, they cut you off, no drama. Which ISP is this?

2011-08-10 06:11:00 | I had head about the u.n. thing, so I was a bit surprised about it too. thing is, I didn't even know they were going to do a credit check on me, must be in the fine print. I hadnt even given them I.D. I just got an sms 2 days after signing up, saying it was declined. I didn't think credit checks could be done without ID anyway. I suppose that anyone pleading basic human rights to broadband would be told they can get prepaid 3g. my gf is going to put it in her name, though she could get declined to because Telstra clear lodged a huge debt in het name to baycorp/Veda for a phone line under her name. she's never been with Telstra clear though and they're refusing to clear the debt even though Telstra was ordered by the ombudsman to provide the audio recording of my gf making a verbal contract over the phone. Telstra said they 'lost' the recording, but still won't drop the debt. my father is the auditor-general's assistant and is head of I.t. in his department, I think I will ask him what I can do in term of what the united nations has stated :pf1mobmini:

2011-08-10 06:28:00 | I have. Snap might. Orcon might too. Depends how bad your credit is - my son had a wee credit glitch a while ago and got both of the above ISPs.

2011-08-10 06:46:00 | But was the bad credit, because of a previous ISP, telecom, or someone / something else? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2011-08-10 07:03:00 | I signed up to orcon in my name and because i don't have ANY credit I instead swapped to having it in mum's name. They rang and asked for id, that was about it. I simply gave her details instead.
