1224055 2011-08-17 11:03:00 Well, after spending many hours on the laptops of hers, one still goes a bit meh and the both are still lacking ram, but my sister has just applied for her 1k course costs, since she wants a netbook to carry around (because her laptop is 17 inches of heavy with a dead battery to boot)

She'll be doing word and maybe internet sort of things, music too I guess but nothing fancy . It just needs to do stuff as quickly as possible, because she's one to easily frustrate .

I'm thinking about 600-800 for a dual core netbook, perhaps with some more ram added or something . She also wants it to have word . IE it's a must have, with one note for referencing .

Having done my references by hand, I'm not sure how that works, if it's a suite or add on or what, so info would be good there .

She might add more ram to the bigger laptop to use as a desktop replacement sort of thing, since I think a 2gb stick would really kick it up the backside (it currently has 1gb, constantly runs at 60% memory resources or so)

Anyway, suggestions for netbooks with decent features that's nifty quick, and where to hunt?

1224056 2011-08-17 11:17:00 Some may come with Office, but it maybe a trial. I doubt many will have full versions of Office on it, if they're cheap. Don't get one with Windows 7 starter, if you want more than 2 GB Speedy Gonzales (78)
1224057 2011-08-17 11:17:00 As for OneNote, it's included as part of Office Home and Student :) It also integrates with the rest of the suite and there's apps for iOS and Windows Phone.

1224058 2011-08-17 12:51:00 windows 7 starter only takes 2gb ram? that sounds pretty pathetic?

also that's good @ 42, I think I can probably get it through uni or lap shop or something for a hundred or two then.

1224059 2011-08-17 12:56:00 I think the max is 2 GB. And here's the rest of the limitations (answers.microsoft.com). There's stuff in it lol. Lucky you can boot into it.. And there's no 64 bit version Speedy Gonzales (78)
1224060 2011-08-17 14:07:00 wow that's pretty naff.

1224061 2011-08-17 21:25:00 make sure not to get office starter either as it has an add bar down the side of the screen taking up 1/3 of the view. However as a uni student she can get office pro for $100 from either here (www.lapshop.co.nz) or here (www.microsoft.com) gary67 (56)

The ASUS Eee 1215N came with Windows 7 Home Premium. Also, if she's a computer science student (lol), she can probably download a copy of Windows 7 Professional free from the university.

1224063 2011-08-17 21:59:00 My little Acer Aspire one came with 7 Starter and Android.
I dont care about not having a huge amount of ram with it, its meant to be portable and not to run ram sucking programs, it also came with Office 2010 Starter, the advertising is not that bad as Gary said, Or I have just got use to it.
If you want a screenshot of what the advertising looks like post here and I will upload one.

1224064 2011-08-17 22:06:00 I ditched office starter because I considered the add bar to be awful and stuck OO on instead but then I ditched all the HP programs reformatted, reinstalled, ditched the restore partition and made my own image as backup runs way better and with no need for extra RAM gary67 (56)
