| 1196255 | 2011-04-21 23:30:00 | I've already installed the tweak "untracker" on my jailbroken ip4. Although it doesn't bother me too much. Don't the telcos track your moves through cell towers anyway? But yea foil hat anyone?? :D :pf1mobmini: |

| 1196256 | 2011-04-22 01:25:00 | Came as a mild surprise, I still don't actually know WHY apple would want that data, there will probably be some analytical reason or maybe as a security (on apples part) such as seeing where people buy the phones and where they end up. Still, its quite a big security flaw as the db is not encrypted on the phone. you can encrypt your backup but thats not useful if soemone manages to do a dump of your phone. |

But yea foil hat anyone?? :D :pf1mobmini: I don't think they ACTIVELY track your cellphone, but I guess there data is there in their database somewhere, since the Police can use the info. You see TV programs (American) that suggest you can access that cell tower signal info in real-time. But since it's (American) TV, we can probably discount that possibility - just like the DNA analysis that gets done in minutes (rather than days). A telco database sitting behind multiple firewalls would be less easy to crack/hack than an unencrypted file on an easily-lost 'smart' phone.... Especially considering the tracking file is on any machine you've synched with your iOS device EDIT: when I say "ACTIVELY", I mean with deliberate intent, for the purposes of knowing where you've been |

| 1196260 | 2011-04-24 00:43:00 | Found this: Android secretly stores location data too -- though less of it, and with less detail ( . boingboing . net/2011/04/22/android-secretly-sto . html" target="_blank">www . boingboing . net) It appears Android does something similar, but caches just the last 50 or so sites (rather than keeping a log file like Apple: "a running tally of data since iOS is first installed and activated on a device") . Plus you have to have both the Android phone and root access to it (which I guess is not a big deal for someone who desperately wants to know where you have been for the last day or so) . . . . |
