1196340 2011-04-24 11:13:00 The demise of bees is critical to plant life and by extension, our own lives. The causes appear to be global warming.
From what I have read they tend to think the use of insecticides and other sprays is to the blame and not global warming.
The temperature within a hive is quite critical but not so for the gathering of nectar.

1196341 2011-04-24 23:54:00 2: It is the atmosphere that acts as a blanket and stops us all freezing to death.

3: If temperatures were to rise a degree or two on average so what? They rise and fall 10 or more degrees almost every day and nobody seems to notice. :D

2. We in Christchurch will need this blanket, lol.

3. If the power goes off here too often over the winter, we will definitely notice.

1196344 2011-04-25 06:17:00 . . . the virus is abnormally vigorous . Australian bees have an immunity .
I don't know about that, but the Aussie bees' boy children are more virulent than vigorous ;)

Yes insecticides play an important part no argument. The global warming influence on bees is indirect and subtle. Flowers are blooming earlier because its warmer, but the hibernating bees are missing that and the resulting honey is becoming lighter, and less nutritious. The plants (including trees) are also losing out from lack of pollination.

Apparently the bumblebee is now suspected to be extinct in North America.

We’ve a hive full of useless B’s in Wellington.

Do the Pom’s want to pick them up, or do they want them delivered?
