| 1195948 | 2011-04-21 10:56:00 | Hi Just wondered if someone has any knowledge on what consumer rights are regarding product guarantees and exchanges. My sister-in-law recently bought a Nilfisk vacuum cleaner from Harvey Norman based on the Consumer mag's review on best vacuums to use for cat/dog hair but the Nilvisk has been a total failure - the power head is clogged up with pet hair and does not appear to be spinning at all. She plans to take it back this weekend and make sure that the actual cleaner is not faulty. If it isn't faulty and is just a poor design, what are her rights as a consumer? Can she exchange it for another brand (e.g. Miele) or get her money back or can they say that everything is working normally and it's not their problem that it doesn't work with her carpet? Thanks You do need to clean those heads out from time to time when they get clogged up. ALso the belts in them are consumerables, so do wear out and need replacing. The miele cat and dog is the best for cats and dog hair. |

If you want to read more about the CGA in different situations the CAB links to it are here (www.cab.org.nz(CGA)%20%20scope:'All%20Co ntent'). They've got a brochure (at the local office) on how best to approach a stand off with a retailer. The best way is to be able to quote your rights, (which you're finding out about now) whilst avoiding an overtly confrontational approach. If the "front line" shop assistant won't co-operate ask to speak to the manager and be prepared to go thru' it all again. If they really won't shift sometimes the CAB will make a call on your behalf and that can often produce a positive result. If everything else fails you'll have to resort to the Disputes Triubunal - PCtek is the expert on that! |

The miele cat and dog is the best for cats and dog hair . Totally agree with that statement . We have Miele cat and Dog THis One ( . miele . co . nz/nz/domestic/products/floorcare_models_35173 . htm" target="_blank">www . miele . co . nz) - and the brushes inside the head do catch any loose threads as well, meaning they do get clogged up after a while, also the filters need to be checked / Cleaned/ replaced . Generally speaking I undo the head approx once a month to give it a clean out, sometimes longer . General cleaning times of the heads can also be dictated by the type of dog/cat hair, is it long hairs or short, long haired animals will cause it to clog up quicker As with many things - people get lazy these days and dont do maintenance - so if it's were taken back, and its found that its simply clogged up due to someone not bothering to do basic maintenance, then they wont have a leg to stand on regrading guarantees, as the vacuum cleaner will be working within its specifications . |

It stopped reading discs after a week or so and when we took it back they simply said "Sonys problem, not ours, sort it yourself. Didn't even give us a number to call. Then we spent weeks trying to get hold of Sony and got ran around in circles. Good luck :D :pf1mobmini: |
