"Officials have been ordered to prepare law changes restricting New Zealanders' access to online pornography . "

God help us, they dont have a clue . Its not 1974 anymore
Theres no way they can enforce any sort ban or restriction . All they will do is push this stuff underground, making it seem evil & dirty .

Why consider laws that could never be policed or enforced ?
Why do we need a new law to stop this in schools . If the govt was serious (not just talk) , they would pay for schools to have good IT support and good firewalls .
But no, just make some laws instead .

The evil dirty porn watchers . Go back to victorian mentality . Lets start with all the politicians who have ever looked at porn sites .
Sensible thing is to realize its just something for a quick giggle, then most get bored with online X & get on with their lives .

I say ban speedo's on the beaches . Thats something no one needs to see . :)

Perhaps impeachment is the answer ?

I can understand it . There is a lot of nasty stuff on the net, and boys are getting the idea that controlling and forcing girls is the norm .
That's why .

Not just pics of tits etc .

1465390 2019-12-06 06:01:00 Yeah, good luck on enforcing the law, or stopping it. If they are worried about schools its easy enough to block if using the schools Internet, but what if they use their own connections. wainuitech (129)
1465391 2019-12-06 06:31:00 the first thing that surprises me is that its not already filtered out on a school network.
the other is what constitutes an "attempt to access porn".knowing how useless some of the govt IT is, its probably just advertising or malware.

the other thing is give kids a bit of credit. they are not all sex addicts looking for a fix.

the other thing any blocking there is ways around it, learning to do that also puts them into the bad side of the net.

and lastly any govt that tries to deny sex is going to loose an election.
also it would be kinda weird that its legal to pay to have sex but illegal to watch it. that may cause some interesting unintended consequences.

1465392 2019-12-06 19:10:00 It's only a short step from censoring porn sites and then censoring other sites for political reasons. Socialist governments love censorship. paulw (1826)

This has Andrew Little's fingerprints all over it. His Hate Speach legislation will tie right into this.

When will they stop spending money ... yours, and mine, aka our taxes ... on things that just don't cut it? One of their latest ... $400m on education, sounds great, but when you amortise that over all the schools, it's diluted to several 100's of thousands for each school. Which we all know doesn't go anywhere (just ask anybody in this forum who's spend money recently on home improvements - Piroska comes to mind, for one).

Or following on snaggle tooth's example of banishing shower heads and light bulbs, they now want to cut out plastic labels on apples and other fruit, cotton buds even.

Instead of just be seen to be spending money (reprise - our money) let them spend it on things that matter. Infrastructure that will benefit all of us. Stop pandering to regional incentives (Shane Jones' let's get re-elected next year and move the ports to Northland and achieve employment for those in the north). What about trying looking after people, the kiwi sloggers, the disadvantaged, those in "povidy".

Yup, the comment of the week ... again:
God help us, they dont have a clue

Socialism. Doing what it does best. Spending other people's money. Or is it wasting other people's money?

Grrrr.
