| 1461433 | 2019-06-11 03:02:00 | I am running Windows 10 on an LG Desktop (Life's Good). The desktop has an Amd processor 6 Core with 8 Mgs RAM. In the past few days Version 1.7 of my marvellous Affinity Photo came out. The update is great, however, I now find the desktop struggling at key points. Today I launched the Task Manager window and watched. I had a RAW file (NEF) and made a couple of basic alterations, then I "developed" the file to edit in the main "Persona". At one point the CPU usage was right up to 100%, though only fairly briefly. The Memory usage kept in the high 70's, low 80% and peaked at about 84%. There is no doubt that whilst Affinity Photo has grown even more sophisticated, it is also much more demanding in terms of digital resources. What message should I take from these readings please? What steps should I consider/not consider please? |

The fact that the CPU usage was only briefly 100% seems to indicate that the system is mostly coping with the demands, also the RAM. From what I understand one or more of the hard drives will be being used as a scratch disc(s). Since the C Drive - an SSD is 256 Gigs and only half filled and the spinning drive (G) is 1TB and only half filled also that helps with demands on the (RAM?). So, I am worrying about nothing? |

| 1461436 | 2019-06-23 09:36:00 | I found this: forum.affinity.serif.com and this: forum.luminous-landscape.com "AP is great for editing, but I don't bother to use it for RAW conversion, too slow and too poor ATM." A better CPU would probably help..... |

| 1461437 | 2019-06-28 21:37:00 | piroska - many thanks for your researches and feedback. I use Lightroom for my basic and bulk editing, especially RAW, which I shoot all of the time. Then I do the difficult and serious, frequently competition goal, editing in Affinity. However, on the occasions that I have edited RAW files in Affinity, have not had problems that I recall. I see in the top link that Stefan had his problem fixed by changing his settings. Do not know what the second person means by ATM. I have googled the acronym and no results show for photography. I do not think he means 'at the minute'. I might look at a better CPU, if the evidence mounts up - though from my limited knowledge that might well also mean a new motherboard too? Clive - thanks for the feedback. RAM does not cost much from memory, so may look at that too. |
