1460860 2019-05-20 21:06:00 I have an old Acer PC that came with XP professional 32 bit. Sometime ago I UPGRADED the XP with W7 home premium and because it was an upgrade, it too was 32bit.

I now want to try and upgrade to W10 Pro. To do so W7 should be upgraded to 64bit and I do have the 64bit disk that came with the now installed W7 32bit.

My question really is, can I upgrade my W7 32bit to 64bit just by installing 64bit over the installed 32bit? Consideration needs to given to the fact that these W7 systems are upgrade systems, not the full O/S.

upgrading fro 32 to 64bit will effectively be a wipe & reload, ie a fresh install.

also
there never was a Free upgrade to 10 if you had the upgrade version of 7
the free upgrade from 7 to 10 ended long ago. If you want a 'legal' install you need to buy the full version of Win10 .

on a laptop that old, I'd guess it will run like a pig on Win10. You'll need more Ram for sure
Perhaps look at a version of Linux instead

Got a persons AIO here right now, actually quite surprising how well it works. Just installed 1903 and while its not going to win any races it works a lot better than I thought, still going to suggest we add in more memory :) Just got a STD 500GB HDD.

As for upgrading to W10 from W7 -- yep its possible, simple way to try it, Go to www.microsoft.com Click on Update now, if it upgrades all good and well, but if you wanted X64 from a 32 then as 1101 posted you'll need to do a complete reinstall once its upgraded and activated from the 32bit.

1460863 2019-05-21 02:32:00 Some XP era laptops will only accept a max of 2GB of ram.
My XP laptop wont take more than 2G, so its never going to be upgraded to 10, just a perfectly working paperweight now :)

Also, chances are XP era laptops will have quite slooooow hard drives .
Win10 likes faster HD's . I hope you're patient .

Win10 has a 32bit version btw :-)

1460864 2019-05-21 03:05:00 I thought of getting an ISO of 64bit from MS as a download so that I do not have to spend days loading updates. Funny though, when I put in my key from my purchased copy of the operating system, MS ask for the language it is in, MS say that the only language for that key is Korean. How can that be? Bryan (147)

BTW you dont need a key to download W10, only to activate it ( depending on circumstances)

1460866 2019-05-21 04:46:00 Quite sometime ago I purchased from some reputable store, a Windows 7 Home upgrade. Inside the plastic case is the normal MS product key sticker which I used to install the os on the PC. Never had any problems at all. When installed it is in English. I have no idea why when trying to get an ISO from MS using the same product key they say it's Korean! Bryan (147)
1460867 2019-05-21 06:18:00 I have no idea why when trying to get an ISO from MS using the same product key they say it's Korean! As mentioned in earlier post, you dont need a Key to download Windows 10, in the link provided you click on "Download Tool Now", when you run it theres options to download different Versions ( X86-32bit or X64) and make a ISO, no key needed until you go to install.

BUT if trying to upgrade from W7 pays to use the update now instead, that way if its going to upgrade or not it will /wont. Once W10 is installed no matter what version (X86 or X64) you can then fresh install W10, in the other.
