1461004 2019-05-28 01:57:00 Piroska,Bryan and wainuitech,, it is not the C drive that has become unallocated space. it is the external drive..

Forget it then.
Make a new backup onto this drive and move on.
Of course you had COPIES of all data on both right??

1461005 2019-05-28 03:49:00 GetDataBack works. Ive used it many times. I gave up long ago on the 'free' recovery programs.

4TB , you could be looking at days to recover.
Anything overwritten will be lost .

Also, you need another drive to recover to, never recover to the same drive.
Also, dont run any sort of fix it tool that trys to repair the partitions or drive .

1461006 2019-05-28 05:17:00 wainuitech cheers..... I see what Xboft shows and decide. I think with the HDD I referring is that its quite new and I may well have most of it elsewhere on other sxternals. So it may well be see what Xboft finds...recover what I want and then move it elsewhere, reformat the HDD and start fresh 3.7TB. Thanks
ps: the drive was nowhere full of data...from memory it had at least 2.5TB unused.
pps: I upgraded my 1809 to the 1903 W10 x64 Pro using the Downlaod I got a month + ago...did it from open W10 1809...seems yo be ok...find the colour paler...but I get used to it :D

In the search type in Theme Open Themes and related settings, scroll down the page a tad, click the Darker ( instead of light)

Man I cant draw on a computer with a mouse LOL :D

1461010 2019-05-28 07:59:00 How about trying this:

Solution 1: Repair corrupt MFT with CHKDSK utility

Connect the disk whose MFT is corrupt and open File Explorer.
Right-click the corrupt NTFS partition and choose Properties from context menu.
On the disk properties windows click Tools tab and then click Check button under Error Checking.

Also:

There is a copy of the MFT on the partition, I have repaired a partition on an external drive but can't remember exactly how but it was something to do with using the MFT copy, there is a small program which has been mentioned on PressF1 a number of times.

so look at this:

www.cgsecurity.org

I think this was the program:

zqwerty. thanks I will have a go at it. As I said I recovered a 2TB HDD external about 8-10 year ago and can't for the life of me remember the name of the app I used...it was suggested by a forum user. Unfortunately I can't go back in time to see my previous posts for that because I was a different Sign in then. Yeah, I managed to recover al 4 of the 500GB partitions in under 30 minutes.. more like 15 minutes.
This is what Xboft has shown is there on the unallocated space HDD... it shows the 3725.89GN partition and the 458.42GB partition...that latter partition is the GPT...that's one hell of a size for a GPT...MBR is usually 500MB...……….but I can only recover 2GB..... I might give the box a tick and go for the BIG one :D
But first I will have a look at the TestDisk you sent link to. Cheers

1461013 2019-05-28 11:13:00 Ok Here is what Xboft shows is on the drive... I will have to have a look see if I have the data on other External HDDs and simply hadn't removed them from this one. Lots to do :D Thanks all, I will post back later when I have a result. Cheers. kioti (17360)
