| 1224874 | 2011-08-21 21:32:00 | +1 www.tomshardware.com Toms best "graphics cards for the money article" that comes out each month always recommends Upgrading at least 3 tiers on the chart on the final page or you may not notice the difference. The 6850 is on the same tier as a 1GB GTX 460 and one tier below a 6870. Ultimately all you gain is the ability to turn up the graphics settings very slightly between tiers. 3 tiers puts you in the GTX 570, 6970 ballpark. If your system is up to it you could try and get a 2nd GTX 460 and SLI them, needs some research to be sure it'll be ok but will give you around the performance level between a GTX 570 & 580 for games that support SLI. Make sure your PSU, MB, and cooling is up to it if you go this way. Specifically if the PCI-E slots are only 2 spaces apart you need cards that vent to the rear not the ones with mid mounted fans that just blow hot air around. |
