So far have run memtest86 and no problems there it seems. Any suggestions where to head after that would be most welcome & appreciated thanks :pf1mobmini: |

| 1224692 | 2011-08-21 08:25:00 | I could have a look if you could come over to Mt Eden. So, it will turn on (since you tested the ram), but wont get into windows without crashing? Might help if you tell us WHAT the BSOD says if its crashing |

Might help if you tell us WHAT the BSOD says if its crashing I don't get the blue screen of death. What happens is two separate things. On some occasions the screen will just die, the fans etc still run but i'm guessing it has locked up as the caps lock lights do not change when button is pressed. Secondly and more recently when I have been turning the machine on it gets as far as a black screen with a cursor flashing inn the top left corner. I think this is the stage before the operating system starts to load. On both occasions only hard reset works. :pf1mobmini: |

| 1224694 | 2011-08-21 09:06:00 | What version of windows is on it? Do you have a printer or something with a card reader?? If you do, it looks like the black screen can be caused if its on. It tries to boot from it. Turn it off, before you turn the computer on | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||
| 1224695 | 2011-08-21 09:11:00 | Win7. I'll try that re the printer, cheers. Would that contribute to it crashing when i'm watching videos (no 1) above ? For example was showing someone video of overseas trip recently and it just crashed as described. :pf1mobmini: |

| 1224696 | 2011-08-21 09:28:00 | No if the printer is causing the black screen, I dont think that'll be the cause of the crashing. When you're watching a video. Is the video on the hdd or on a cd/dvd? And what program are you using? This may also cause the black screen by the looks of it (h30434.www3.hp.com) The blinking cursor in the top left means that the bootmanger has lost where Windows is installed. Probably because of the uninstalling of software. You could try this (support.microsoft.com) Are you dual booting? |

When it crashes watching video it has been both you tube or just watching a movie file taken on holiday - i think from memory that was playing on WMP. Going to try running prime95 also at a recommendation on another forum - check the temps |
