1198460 2011-04-29 20:37:00 Hi I'm new to this forum and this is my first thread.

I was wondering if anyone has had dealings with PB Tech: http://pbtech.co.nz/

Is there service, delivery etc. any good?
I mean their website looks a bit too good to be true right.......

1198461 2011-04-29 23:05:00 Yeah I use them all the time, I've signed up with a dealers account a few years back, and they've rewarded my loyalty with even further discounts.

Just make sure you keep the receipt, they're anal about any returns etc.

1198462 2011-04-29 23:14:00 If you are in business - while PBtech is okish, you will be better off getting accounts with wholesalers and get items cheaper still.

It wont be by much in some items, but every little bit counts over time, and any warranty claims are 99% of the time no problems.

You have to watch out for PBtech as well , they dont put the full warranty time on goods they sell.

Had to do a return for a customer who had a PC built by them in wgtn branch, it was just over a year old, and they said the thing was out of warranty - when in fact the real time for the motherboard (which had failed) was 3 years.

As an example: take a look at this Random build I selected (www.pbtech.co.nz) - 1 year warranty - yet the majority of the components are 2-3 year from wholesalers - if you paid them an extra $149+gst you get the full warranty -- yeah right.:groan:

1198463 2011-04-30 00:29:00 Generally speaking unless you are doing some sort of reasonable volume through wholesalers its "usually" barley worth signing up over buying off online retailers that get good price breaks for volume .

TP for example use a tier type system and if you are only spending a few thousand a year you will get generally noddy pricing often worse than just buying online retail if you shop around .

Incidentally PB do bring in some of there own product and do contra with other wholesale companies and as above still do dealer pricing .

1198464 2011-04-30 00:39:00 Thanks for the replies. Sounds like it would be better to look elsewhere as I am only looking to buy a new LCD for my computer and PB Tech seemed pretty cheap.

-wainuitech: I see that the random build (www.pbtech.co.nz) you selected has the Sandy Bridge chipset fault!! Wouldn't be buying that atm...... :D

1198466 2011-04-30 00:57:00 Oh, haha didn't read the details. My mistake. jevans (16086)
1198467 2011-04-30 01:11:00 In my experience, I've never yet had decent service from them.
And:

www.gpforums.co.nz

These stores generally do the job, they are "average". They can be problematic, but are generally not. RMA services are average, you usually have to wait several weeks for a replacement, rarely getting a replacement on the spot.

These stores are generally unrecommended. They are at times problematic when it comes to RMA services taking very long. It is relatively rare for these stores, but they sometimes try to sell off 2nd hand goods as new.

1198468 2011-04-30 01:26:00 Seems the general message is stay away!!!

1198469 2011-04-30 01:30:00 That Random build - as Speedy mentioned is the B3 - the newer version. Got 3 brand new PC's that I'm building at the moment using that exact board - they run quite nice :)

If its only to buy a single LCD, then try Ascent - a little more expensive maybe, but usually the service is better.

PBTech in wgtn - didn't want to really know about the persons failed motherboard since it was out of their crappy one year warranty,it wasn't till I spoke to the actual manager for a while, told him I ran my own business and those boards came with a three year warranty (and a few other carefully selected, but polite words), that he replaced the board.;)

I'm just looking for an around 20" monitor but hoping not to spend too much. Any particular brand and Budget ? Ascents range (www.ascent.co.nz)
