1197915 2011-04-28 04:36:00 I don’t know where this originated from, it just came to me via E-Mail from a mate, but I thought it was worth passing on .

Only a lazy $600m to teach Maori Dialects and it doesn’t even include Pidgin! :groan:

MAORI DEMAND $600m FOR TE REO

The demands by the Maori elite are as relentless as a rising tide .

Not content with securing the future ownership of the public’s foreshore and seabed - including invaluable mineral resources which should belong to all New Zealanders, not privatised to corporate iwi – Maori leaders are now coming back for more . This time they want $600 million of taxpayers’ money for iwi to pay for something they should arguably be doing for themselves - teaching their children the Maori language .

The amount of funding being demanded is equivalent to the total combined budgets of the entire Vote for Customs, Agriculture and Fisheries, Justice, and Senior Citizens . It comes at a time when the National Party claims to be tightening its belt and cutting back on government spending .

However, the events of the last two years has shown us that the public can no longer have confidence that such an outrageous bid for taxpayers’ money for a new Maori bureaucracy will not go ahead - in spite of assertions by Finance Minister Bill English that there is no money .

We have found – to our cost as a nation - that National’s word cannot be trusted when it comes to policies that bestow privilege on Maori . Since putting their unnecessary coalition agreement with the Maori Party in place, National has become a soft touch for the Maori sovereignty movement . And if our recent experience is anything to go by (namely the Prime Minister reneging on his promise to retain Crown ownership of the foreshore and seabed if there was not widespread support for the Marine and Coastal Area Bill) it is clear that the leader of the National Party now cares more about appeasing the Maori Party than he does about his responsibility to the wider public .

National’s record on racial appeasement is alarming .

In spite of their election pledge of one law for all New Zealanders and the abolition of the Maori seats, National:
Orchestrated the secret signing of the United Nation’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples - a treaty so radical that even the Labour Party wouldn’t sign it!
Did lucrative backroom deals with the tribal elite in order to get their unwarranted emissions trading scheme passed into law .
Has thrown hundreds of millions of dollars into tribal control of the country’s biggest waterway, the Waikato River .
Signed co-management deals with iwi for National Parks and the conservation estate without consulting with the public over whether this type of deal is acceptable .
Is signing off increasingly generous Treaty of Waitangi settlement deals that include schools, Police stations and iconic public assets .
Is currently engaged in discussions with Maoridom over the ownership and ‘guardianship rights’ of New Zealand’s water supplies,
Has already sacrificed Crown ownership of the foreshore and seabed, and
Has agreed to a constitutional review which could result in a new constitution for New Zealand that entrenches not only the Maori seats but also a re-written version of the Treaty of Waitangi .

1197920 2011-04-28 05:27:00 The maoris might have over reached themselves this time and left them selves open to ridicule.
I think the straw that broke the camels back is coming up, the Whites in New Zealand might have got to the feed up stage with the maoris and their request for more money.

1197921 2011-04-28 07:01:00 Let's not any of us forget Dr Newman has a barrow to push. And that whatever is in that barrow, it's going to be advantageous to ACT. While I welcome a right wing influence to move National away from centre, I do think as a nation we should be concentrating on what is destroying us from within:

Police news release at 5:47 PM Thursday 28 April.

Six month old Ngaruawahia baby dies in Starship Hospital

A six month old Ngaruawahia baby, admitted to Waikato Hospital earlier this week with apparent non-accidental injuries, has died this afternoon at Starship Hospital in Auckland.

The child was transferred to Starship Hospital overnight on Tuesday night, 26 April. The case was referred to Police on Tuesday 26 April and a Police investigation has been underway since.

The officer in charge of the Police investigation, Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Greene, says the young child had been on life-support since her arrival at Starship Hospital.

“Her life-support was turned off this afternoon and she died a short time later at approximately 4:35pm.

“As a result, the Police investigation has now been upgraded to a homicide inquiry.”

Detective Senior Sergeant Greene says a post-mortem will be undertaken in Auckland tomorrow to determine the cause of death.

He says Police and ESR staff have been conducting a scene examination at the Ngaruawahia house where the baby had been living.

“This will take some time to complete, and will continue over the coming days.

“Obviously this is a sad development in this case. Our focus is very much on determining the events leading up to the baby’s admission to hospital and her subsequent death.”

Detective Senior Sergeant Greene says Police are now able to name the young child as Serenity Jay Scott-Dinnington.

Police will be making no further comment today. A further media update will be provided tomorrow, 29 April.

Let's stop these low lifes killing our young. Stuff the PC payments, let's put the money into serious research and funding how we put a stop to it.

1197924 2011-04-28 09:10:00 I claim a measly $10m for the education of either C, C++ or PHP. They're a bit more useful than the Maori language.

I propose to achieve this by printing off 20 one-page papers documenting a short history of the respective languages, and about 10 lines of code.

Then I will toss the papers out the window of a moving car.

It will achieve at least twice as much.
