1225074 2011-08-24 05:22:00 Well, that was a bugger! Removing Stylish didn't help at all, but I got all my Ads back!

Fortunately reinstalling Stylish gave me wall to wall PF1 again and hopefully the other ads are gone again too, they had been getting intrusive again, especially the animated types.

Where to next?

Cheers

1225075 2011-08-24 07:44:00 Did you use the uninstaller then reinstall from the links I posted?

Don't bother with the Shockwave player since Speedy thinks it is not required.

You left click on the Stylish icon and then untick what you don't want to be operating on any given page.

1225077 2011-08-24 08:59:00 Since no flash doesn't work in any browser, it looks like flash may be corrupted.

There are different versions of flash for FF & IE.

Try the instructions From here (kb2.adobe.com) - run the uninstaller, read the rest as well.

I do remember a customer who had a real bad case of flash not working, I can look up the instruction on how to remove it completely ( this is for IE) there are several steps -- just have find the article again.

1225078 2011-08-24 09:07:00 The article: From Adobe (kb2.adobe.com)

The problem was Flash wouldn't work in IE8, couldn't uninstall it normally, couldn't install normally either , NO errors, said it had installed, but still didn't work :crying

1225079 2011-08-24 11:57:00 Success at last!

It was Adblock Plus that was stopping YouTube, so thank you zqwerty for the suggestion. I guess the next question is whether this is remediable or not, but for the number of times I'd be wanting to use YouTube it is no big deal to shut off Adblock for the duration then re-enable it afterwards.

Thank you all for your patience and your suggestions. I never cease to be amazed by the depth of knowledge you all have.

Cheers

1225080 2011-08-24 12:00:00 Who did you select after installing Adblock?? And which Adblock did you install 1.39? It maybe the addon you installed that stuffed it up. Install Adblock plus 1.39.. It seems to work here Speedy Gonzales (78)
1225081 2011-08-24 13:12:00 AdblockPlus does not block uTube natively, click the down pointing arrow by the icon and choose 'preferences' whilst you are on an offending page, this will give you a list of what is being blocked, you can delete the inappropriate entry once you figure which one it is.

It will be something you have added not the adblocking preferences added at install and constantly updated.

I got all excited there for a minute, I scrolled slowly down through the list of blocked items, three at a time (resolution of my mouse wheel click) to make sure I didn't miss anything, and right there close to the bottom of a very long list was youtube . com . :clap

I unblocked it and tried again, but no joy . I rebooted but still no joy .

So, I disabled adblock plus and YouTube was available again so there is still something on the adblock list that I have to remove .

There are a number of options on there that are sufficiently well identified to allow me to ignore them, but there are many that are completely anonymous, so before I do an entry by entry, trial and error exercise that will take hours to complete, does anybody know of any additional function or link that YouTube uses or requires?

1225083 2011-08-25 00:45:00 Got it! :banana

I had a bright idea! It couldn't be any of the entries with zero hits recorded, and nor could it be anything with more than 50 hits, so I opened up a YouTube video then disabled the likely candidates one at a time, refreshing the YouTube page each time and found it inside of five minutes.

The entry was s.ytimg.com/yt/swfbin/*

As you can see, it was easy to guess and I should have picked it out in no time at all. :badpc:

So, YouTube was running, but PF1 produced blank screens which seemed to be caused by my Element Hiding Rules which were all OK up until then, so I unchecked them and got my normal full screen ad-free display back. I don't know what is going on there but no doubt something will happen next time I boot because they should be all ticked to make them active.

That will be a new thread if I've fixed it worse and need assistance.

Thanks for all the help.

Cheers
