1197604 2011-04-27 21:43:00 Well can you explain what this means please?:

To me that means you are covered if you do all the first 3 things and also only if you use Buy Now. Bidding normally means nothing applies. Thats the way I read it as well
•If you place a bid for an item rather than buying at a fixed or Buy Now price, the CGA does not apply.

1197605 2011-04-27 22:07:00 So therefore it matters not if you buy even from a real shop like Dick-Smith, as long as you bid on the auction you have no guarantees under the CGA? Agent_24 (57)

That seems to be the case. However most real shops have a buy now price and if you use that rather than bidding then you would be covered.

My local DSE store decided they didn't want to impose buy-nows on their customers. If you get in early first thing in the morning, you can usually snap up a bargain or two, provided some other clever sod isn't in the shop doing likewise.
Going later in the day, you're almost definitely going to be paying retail pricing.

1197608 2011-04-27 23:47:00 I think by law anything on an auction site, even brand new does not have to get any warranty at all and does not go under the CGA.
I believe I read recently that the law has just been change so that things bought off a professional dealer carries the same consumer guaranties. When it takes effect I don't know.

1197610 2011-04-28 07:20:00 Depending on the item, it may be parallel imported and thus the manufacturer's warranty is not valid in NZ. The seller could then be offering their own 3 month warranty. somebody (208)
