1197072 2011-04-26 04:06:00 The only reason I have XP on my secondary PC is because it runs on 512MB Ram and 7 would be a tad slow on that

Yeah, probably a good idea. Same reason why I installed Server 2003 on 256MB RAM instead of Server 2008 (R2) :p

1197073 2011-04-26 06:41:00 There are lots of systems that perform admirably at present, running the software that is most suited to the task and that the operators are proficient at using.
Whether they run Dos, some kind of Apple tart or ME is irrelevant. They are used to do a job.
Leap in and spend a couple of bucks on "upgrading" to Win 7 and suddenly your hardware doesn't work. No worry, just replace all the PC's, printers, scanners, UPS's, eftpos terminals, weather stations and plotters etc. Now you will be equipped to find that much of your software won't run on the wonderful new OS. Don't fret, just replace all the software with flash new releases for bonzer bling. What's this? The operators can't get the job done using all this new and totally incompatible hardware and incomprehensible software ( well, it is only incompatible with the company data and the operators). Remain calm, chuck out the operators and employ new staff.
The data you have is incompatible? This is where Windows 7 finally makes sense, you can sell the whole shooting box, Hardware, Software, and Staff during the going out of business sale as "New and Unused".

Your competitors will thank you for it.

I spent nothing - it was a Christmas present, and I also have access to a free copy from MSDNAA :p

At risk of being labelled a hypocrite (sigh ), XP is a 21st century OS - but it was based on an OS from 2000, which is the 20th century :p

PS, Rail transport is from the 19th century. ;)

Which makes the PC a 1980's invention - yet we still use them today, just vastly improved and much faster ;)

(Ever heard of the Matangis (en.wikipedia.org)? :p)
