1198292 2011-04-29 05:46:00 My apologies. I misread the original post :( Zippity (58)
1198293 2011-04-29 05:46:00 Thank you for that.

But how do you know? Is there a list somewhere? A website perhaps? What if I lived in Kaitaia or Blenheim, for example? How would I know who to cheer for?

1198294 2011-04-29 05:50:00 Just cheer for the side that's in front all the time. Snorkbox (15764)
1198295 2011-04-29 07:35:00 All sports do it.

I hear people talk about "the gunners" and 'red devils' at work, I usually just smile and nod as I know they are talking about theatre sports - not a fan.

1198296 2011-04-30 05:19:00 Thanks, Alex. That's a good start. My remaining problem are the other sports - netball and basketball are two examples. How do I discover who the Mystics and Southern Sting represent? Ulsterman (12815)
1198297 2011-04-30 05:58:00 The word 'Southern' might give you a clue in the name 'Southern Sting'. Here is a list:

Also, the Basketball game between Cairns Taipans and the Auckland Breakers was important because it was the grand final for the championship.

But seriously, you'd think you would realize that you could just google these things?

1198298 2011-05-01 06:23:00 None- They are all commercialised, and with commercialisation sport goes out the window.

To Quote Gary Mull, The former secretary of the IOR.

"The relationship between sport and commercialism is the same as that between true love and prostitution, with one small difference, Prostitution is more honest, it does not pretend to be anything that it isn't".

and his other great quote, on the issue

"To those who say a little commercialisation is perfectly OK, there is no such thing as being slightly pregnant"

Commercialism destroyed offshore racing as a participant sport for hundreds of very good offshore sailors, especially in Europe. Who can afford to put their tax paid dollars up against a commercial interest's pre-tax dollars"

Of course I could, but it would not be as interesting as posting the question here.
