Around here almost as soon as a road is resealed some other 'service' will find a need to promptly dig it up.

Shortly followed by another 'service', and within 6 months your newly resealed road is covered in strips and patches.

I would love to see better coordination between all the associated parties whenever a road is in line for work.

The other thing is the false economy sealing with chip-seal rather than asphalt .

Chip-seal on a moderately used road will last two or three years (less, as you say, if utilities insist on digging it up and patching it every few months), whereas asphalt will last at least twice or three times as long .

I don't think the cost of asphalt is 2 to 3 times as much - and even it it is, the inconvenience factor of chip seal (cones, lime compacting - where they go back to the base course, dust, mud, tiny stones getting everywhere for months and the resulting noisy driving/riding surface) is well-worth the extra investment .

They did a road near here which needed resealing within six months of being sealed.
I wonder what the cost of broken wind screens in NZ is? My last one was about $480 and I have had three broken wind screens.
One thing I have noticed near where I live is that they have used hot mix approaching the pedestrian crossing which indicates to me that hot mix is safer as well.
