1225580 2011-08-24 06:43:00 Hi,I have a 2 year old computer that crashes when a load is put on,eg heaven benchmark or my game Overlord2.
it will play for a few seconds and then the screen will go blank.
This happened when new but worked ok after the 400w power supply was changed to a 450w,however happening again after upgrading from vista to win7.
Its An AsusM4N78.
AMD Phenon 9650 Quad core 2.3Ghz.
ATI Radeon HD4600,512Mb.
4Gig Ram.
I suspect it may be the power supply but someone may be able to advice

1225583 2011-08-24 07:04:00 What does the BSOD say?? If it shows a bluescreen, (if you can still get into windows), get bluescreenview, install then run it (www.nirsoft.net). What does it say is the cause?

Get the exe install file down the bottom. And what BIOS is currently on it?? Thats up to 1103 at the mo

1225584 2011-08-24 07:27:00 I'd say PSU. Does the mobo have onboard vga? (if so try run game using that on low settings). Are you running the game at high settings? If so try low. I'm assuming 450w is good enough for the 4600. If you can play it fine on low with the gfx card I'd say its psu. icow (15313)
1225585 2011-08-24 07:32:00 There's no video on it (www.asus.com.au). Since it uses a Nvidia chipset, you didnt install Nvidia firewall did you?? If you did, uninstall it, its crap Speedy Gonzales (78)
1225586 2011-08-24 07:33:00 The BIOS is 0805 Build 06.29.09,I am not sure how to update it donandjuliesherrock (16511)
1225587 2011-08-24 07:45:00 You dont have to update the BIOS. But if you click on download (in the link I posted, then go to BIOS). And you're having probs (which later updates MAY fix), It may pay to update it.

This motherboard supports EZ-Flash 2. Which means you can update the BIOS in the BIOS (under the EZ-Flash option).

All you need is a USB flash drive (formatted in FAT32), the BIOS update (unzip it first). Then reboot, (put the USB flash drive into a USB port), then go into the BIOS, go to the EZ-Flash option point it to the USB flash drive letter, load the update / wait for it to finish.

Reboot, go back into the BIOS. Set it to its defaults then reconfigure the BIOS / save settings / reboot. Just make sure your motherboard is the M4N78 before / if you update the BIOS

1225588 2011-08-24 07:54:00 Thanks guys,I set the video card to the lowest settings and have now played the Heaven benchmard for over 5min and no crashing[would only get a few seconds before].
I will raise video settings till it quits then drop down till ok again.
Thanks again Don
