1197197 2011-04-26 02:00:00 I have this friend and he freely admits to torrenting a LOT of stuff.

He has come up with a rather unique method of protecting his interests in the event of the serving of a warrent under the new Copyright law.

2kg's of Thermite on his External HDD stack.

After a using 1kg and discovering when it accidently went off that only one HDD melted he increased it to two.

Future Darwin Award winner I think.

1197198 2011-04-26 02:13:00 Why bother? If they issued a warning notice, that means he's guilty, end of story. Agent_24 (57)

You're asking someone that is thinking of melting their HDD's with termite for rational logical thought?

1197200 2011-04-26 02:57:00 I'd use an EMP bomb...

Much more elegant!

.

What an idiot.
As if they wouldn't already know about his theft by then, and nothing like zeroing your drive. No he wants to be arrested for bombs too.

Wouldn't the platters still be readable though?

1197203 2011-04-26 04:30:00 Hmm maybe... I would have thought that if strong enough it would wipe them... maybe a huge electromagnet then? MRI machine?

I guess Thermite is probably the easiest vs most damage...

1197204 2011-04-26 04:41:00 2Kg's of Semtex / C4 would probably work quite well .... if he was in the same room when he "wiped" the drives, he probably wouldn't have to go to court and face the charges of Copywrite breach OR possession of explosives .... SP8's (9836)
1197205 2011-04-26 04:44:00 So on the basis of things Thermite seems a considered rational choice. DeSade (984)
1197206 2011-04-26 04:50:00 Well I'd say it's probably the easiest to get and set up, and should give a pretty good guarantee of drive destruction. Agent_24 (57)
