1225879 2011-08-25 02:38:00 My windows 7 pro has been crashing recently I have tried selective start up so only a few things start .
I have just told it to record small memory dump so should catch more info it next time . .

my mouse pointer pauses sometimes when moving across page my system says 99% idle all the time when this does occur . When only running mozilla, Any ideas?

Is it common for 7 to crash?

I have quite a few programs especially pinnacle studio which usually struggles with my HD vids when they start getting big .

Best fix: Repair? Or the usual reinstall option which is a pain with pinnacle because it won't see old projects as it used to .

Thanks anybody .
Searched PF1 and google .

1225880 2011-08-25 02:41:00 Any version of windows can crash, inc Win7.

Get bluescreenview install / run it. What does it say is the cause? (www.nirsoft.net)

Download is at the bottom (get the exe file). Is the hdd formatted in NTFS? Since you deal with video.

Also what are the stop error/s

Hardware is great . No it shouldn't crash .

Mozilla - what version? Start by replacing it, perhaps uninstall and reinstall .

The rest? Need more info .

1225883 2011-08-29 04:51:00 Thanks guys, I think it might be related to wireless KB mouse which is logitech Mouse M310 KB is K520 with a little USB receiver (I guess one of the easiest is trouble shooting will be replace KB & M with wired..

The crash dump nearly always says: "ntoskrnl.exe" but I have read this is not usually the cause. Here is the latest line in BSOD View:

The other exe mentioned are hal.dll(3 instances) ataport.sys(2) and 1 time dump_ataport.sys out of about 30 instances since march.

1225886 2011-08-29 21:49:00 This may apply (support.microsoft.com)

The CPU in your sig is a Nehalem CPU isnt it?? If this is what you're using. If it is, request the hotfix from the above link, then install it. Is SP1 installed? Are you using the ASUS AI suite?? Looks like this may cause this stop error as well. Or the power management software (if you've installed something)

Here's a similar prob (answers.microsoft.com). With similar CPU's

1225887 2011-08-29 22:02:00 My money is on the memory...freezing is a common occurrence with incorrect memory settings, and you have triple channel, making it more fussy.
SPD settings sometimes dont get set correctly when motherboard and memory are new. You may need to check the setting with the manufacturers site and enter them manually in the BIOS.
IIRC, there were some issues with Nehalem and the new DDR3 voltage settings!.

1225888 2011-08-29 22:11:00 OK looking at hotfix now,

Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz Processor with Original Fan and Heatsink

Memory detail:

Corsair TR3X6G1333C7 6GB (3x XMS3 2GB) PC-10600 (1333MHz) XMS DD

I havent installed any of the ASUS MB or power management software, I always think less is best?

SP 1 installed

Thanks guys
