1199711 2011-05-05 11:53:00 I have a trip soon - was not planning to go but Air Asia's debut fares were so cheap so just a week , 2 nights each, some are repeat visits.

Question.
For my photography. Do anyone know if at 6am the bright lights of Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok is on or is it largely dark and I need to shoot only at sunset time? Ie., Siam Square (BKK), Petrona Tower (KLCC Park), Merlion Park and Marina Bay Sands / Helix Bridge (SG).

Also may it be hard to get breakfast early in the morning? I was in KL 2yr ago but not much on around the CBD and few people. Not sure that if they eat in their own areas..... It occured to me they only had hotel restaurants and chain cafes but at 8am .....

Cheers...

1199712 2011-05-06 02:40:00 As far as Bangkok is concerned:

You will get a colourful sunrise and sunset everyday as the sun rises and sets through the pollution. Because of the pollution it gets light a wee bit later and darker earlier in Bangkok, but once the sun has cleared the pollution it's not too bad.

My experience of taking shots of the lights in downtown anywhere is to take the shot as soon as the lights come on and there is still some light in the sky. Always looks good.

Do hope you enjoy your trip. Sounds like great fun.

1199713 2011-05-06 07:39:00 Most hotels have breakfast from 6am. Otherwise get yourself some muesli bars or other snacks and have that for breakfast. You can always have something more heartier later on.

You should be able to get some great after-dark shots around Siam Square and also off the raised walkways around the MBK, Discovery Centre and Siam Paragon shops.

The MBK centre is open until 10pm too. :D

1199714 2011-05-06 21:43:00 I'll be outside by 6am :D I am wanting to double my chances by going out in the morning too ... May get some cityscapes without the bright lights then with the pollution, maybe that is why NZ don't have much great sunrise cos of that :p

I haven't bought a pair of jeans in 10yrs so I may get one in Siam Square. I assume they are cheaper than NZ and I don't want market or counterfeit stuff. Not really into markets as I been to enough places and I just walk pass.

At the end of BKK going to SG, I have to be at the airport 5am, so taxi it is .....

1199715 2011-05-06 22:16:00 Singapore- this time of the year, the sun should be up at 6am provided it's not cloudy or raining. Food is concerned, it's 24/7 easily available - cheap, clean and good!

Don't forget to visit Sim Lim Square where you can spend one whole day to browse through.

Have a great holiday!

1199716 2011-05-06 22:27:00 7am sunrise. So I assumed 1hr before ... would still be dark..... May check the data on first light thou ...

Yeah may have a look at Sim Lim, but not into shopping when abroad but worth a look, not been to before. I like to see stuff that is unique to the place than say ... enjoying that Heneiken which could be done anywhere ... :D

In SG my hotel is still to be booked as they are $$ for weekdays attracting business expense accounts right up to within the last week they prices could be slashed by 50%. Will stay in the City Hall or Marina Bay area.

1199719 2011-05-07 13:43:00 It's really hot here in Philippines (Manila), although a tropical depression is due tonight. Photo taking in KL (Malaysia) might still be a bit dark at 6am. Plenty of food outlets around Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur. nerd89 (14761)
