2011-05-03 07:36:00 | Well our washing machine just blew up; black smoke n' all. The belt has been slipping occasionally for a while now, and today during the spin cycle it stopped spinning, made a horrible noise and blew a poof of black smoke. So it seems we are probably in line to get a new one. The local high school are doing a promotion with Noel Leemings where you can buy any item for cost + 10% + GST, and the school gets a cut. So we'll probably go with them, but the question is which one? Is there really a big advantage getting a front loader? Thanks in advance.

2011-05-03 07:44:00 | Cost + 10% + 15% = Cost + 25%. Doesn't seem like a deal to me. Shop around. Front loaders use less water, they take forever to run a cycle though.

2011-05-03 07:47:00 | Cost+10%+15%= Cost+26.50% | Whenu (9358) | |
2011-05-03 07:49:00 | I have never used a front loader, always a top loader. I find it easier to toss the washing in the top. No bending down. | Bobh (5192) | |
2011-05-03 07:54:00 | Cost+10%+15%= Cost+26.50% 10 + 15 does not equal 26.5....

2011-05-03 07:55:00 | Also, isn't it really just cost + 10%? Because wouldn't GST be added on in all cases?

2011-05-03 08:09:00 | Front loaders use way more water, take a hell of a lot longer to do the complete cycle and most can't be opened once started without getting wet feet. Europe uses exclusively front loaders and they can take up to 11/2 hours to do a wash cycle

2011-05-03 08:09:00 | 10 + 15 does not equal 26.5.... It does when brackets are added: (cost +10%) +15% GST :) Front loaders can also rust around the door seal when the machine gets old. I suppose a stainless would be ok, but as Gary said you can't open the door once the machine has filled. We had an Indesit FL for many years, Champion made it here under licence. It was ok until it rusted.
