1199350 2011-05-05 06:47:00 Apparently a 193cm, 105kg person covered in athletics bars is exactly what they are looking for!You would have a larger blood volume than the weedy ones, so even though they collect the same volume, you are less likely to notice. Although, the big strong ones often are the first to faint.

They will post you a donation card and this will have your ABO and Rhesus blood group.

I haven't donated for about a year now (always bad timing) so I must front up again. I'm a universal donor so always popular. :p

1199351 2011-05-05 10:26:00 I managed 18 times before stopped by a medication change. I too am
B rh NEG (CDE CDE dHU NEG). 11 in a thousand a:thumbs:pparently. My son is the same & donated during & after the same period as me. Sometimes he would get a phone call to donate a double dose. St Johns would pick him up from work & take him back. Needed for an operation"Tomorrow". I was so proud of him.
So Well done to anyone who goes. PJ

1199353 2011-05-05 22:23:00 I just had a look at my card. 32 previous donations. I'm not allowed to do it anymore as I've passed the age limit. What's the age limit? Tony (4941)
1199354 2011-05-05 22:40:00 I have huge doubts that anyone who ate beef in the UK in the specified time frame is a CJD carrier (there would have been evidence by now) and I would start donating again in an instant if they came to their senses - the holes in my brain are alcohol-related, not Mad Cow Disease! :D

Well actually I know a few people who say I'm completely mad, not sure if its from eating beef though. I knew my local butcher personally over there. I went to school with his sons and did some carpentry work for him on both the shop and his home. On the odd occasion I was at the local cattle market you would see him in there buying on the hoof and since he also had his own abattoir that serviced the 3 shops his family owned you knew where your meat was coming from and that it was hand picked  Oh and so far I have had 2 operations and awaiting another in 3 weeks and I still don't know my blood group

1199356 2011-05-06 04:49:00 Bah, all this talk of donating blood got me curious and now I'm off in a fortnights time to get my soul drained from me.

Sounds fun, hope I pass out and come to with a super hot nurse 'helping' me. :punk

1199357 2011-05-06 04:55:00 They won’t take my blood, as I was in the UK at the time the Mad Cow was starting. stu161204 (123)
1199358 2011-05-06 05:03:00 Well isnt there anyone with a horror story???Not really a horror story, but:

When I worked for IBM in Oz, the blood people actually came round to the office and set up in the canteen. A group of us donated regularly, and we worked hard to persuade one of the women in the office to join us. You know the sort of thing -"It's painless, think of the choccy bikkies", etc. etc. She eventually agreed. I had never had any problems donating, but for some reason, on that occasion I passed out in the chair. So this woman who had screwed up her courage to do this thing came into the room to find me flat out, white as a sheet and with nurses clustered round me. To her credit, she still made the donation. As for me, I've never had a problem before or since.
