1199148 2011-05-03 08:32:00 Front loaders use way more water, take a hell of a lot longer to do the complete cycle and most can't be opened once started without getting wet feet.

Europe uses exclusively front loaders and they can take up to 11/2 hours to do a wash cycle

No. Front loaders use less water. Doors can be opened on most models now
and a wash can be done in 30 mins.

1199149 2011-05-03 08:40:00 When I was in business your suppliers invoice always showed each item at it's ex GST price. All items were added as a total and GST was added to this total. I would expect them to add the 10% markup to the ex GST cost price of the item and then add a GST component to the price of the item. Bobh (5192)
1199150 2011-05-03 09:00:00 Well our washing machine just blew up; black smoke n' all.

The belt has been slipping occasionally for a while now, and today during the spin cycle it stopped spinning, made a horrible noise and blew a poof of black smoke.

So it seems we are probably in line to get a new one.

The local high school are doing a promotion with Noel Leemings where you can buy any item for cost + 10% + GST, and the school gets a cut. So we'll probably go with them, but the question is which one? Is there really a big advantage getting a front loader?

Thanks in advance.

Is a F&P 380 or badged equivalent? sounds like the brake solenoid, if it is I will send you one.
If it is a 380 it will outlast the next 5 new washing machines they are worth fixing not throwing out the DC3 of washing machines.

That's what I thought.

It's an F+P smartdrive 9 excellence 5.5. That mean anything to you?

1199153 2011-05-03 09:11:00 Your machine is electronic I'm afraid. The 380's were not electronic - as prefect says, they were the DC3 of autowashers, the successor to the 400 (with maching 405 dryer). Weighed a ton thanks to the concrete block in them and clunked and shook like mad but just went and went and went. Ahh the good old days, apart from when I had to deliver or even worse remove one from a property - down stairs. They had the habit of getting away from you lol.

Thanks for the chance to put my rose tinted glasses on!

Smart drive, junk it although keep the motor some gyro gearlooses use them for wind power generation.

Cool a fellow 380 freak!
I have a 400 in the shed to wash my overalls as it has a bowl heater dont need hot water.
I still cant resist picking them off the side of the road. Have seen some 400 which madmen have modified with plastic 380 outer bowl and 380 timer. I copied the wiring of the 400 with 380 timer in case I run out of 400 timers myself.
As you would know the concrete block offsets the weight of the electric motor but the peasants thought it was there to stop the machine wandering off.
Jester you have made my night not many 400/380 freaks around now.
I have the original typed up 400 and 380 workshop manuals which helped me how to get the bowl off the gearbox.

1199156 2011-05-03 09:36:00 Cost + 10% + 15% = Cost + 25%.
Doesn't seem like a deal to me.

Shop around.

Front loaders use less water, they take forever to run a cycle though.
Go back to school.:D

1199157 2011-05-03 11:18:00 I've always wondered about promotions like this, that seemed too good to be true.

I'm guessing the retailers idea of 'cost' is the GST inclusive figure. They add the 10% and sell it, pocketting the 10% as well as the 15% GST that they claim back later.

It'll also likely be the 'cost' to them to buy a single unit. Chances are they've bought a few dozen units (or their head office bought a few hundred units) at a greatly reduced price, but they'll trade it off on the 'cost' to replace that one unit.
