1226766	2011-08-29 00:23:00	It seems that this time although the cards look like they are reference there is enough of a difference to make a actual comparison. Trouble is in both cases they use different terminology and I am not as fluent in it as I was. Can anyone tell me which is the best from these two offerings and I am also open to looking at suggestions from other manufacturers for the same model. 1226767	2011-08-29 01:01:00	Logged in just for you DeSade....Can I ask what res you use?....The 590 is a beast but really, we are talking extreme here....Extreme power draw, heat, but thankfully a bit quieter than the ATI sandwich. 28nm GPU's will be out very soon, this generation dual GPU really are at the end of the 40nm edge, and NOT in my opinion worth buying... Why not get a 580 to see your through to q2 next year?	SolMiester (139)

Power is not a issue with a 1000w supply and i doubt the 590 will be louder or hotter than 2x 480's I know the card is more than I need but meh, I like to be on the edge of the graphics progression. In answer thou, I run two 23" screens res'ed at 1920 x 1080 have plans to add a third screen to this at some point. 28nm?	DeSade (984)

Surely you only game on 1 screen, not 2, therefore I would wait until the next generation which has the lower silicon process 28nm. This means less power draw, more transistors and a heap more OC room... I personally think the 6990 & 590 are too close to the edge of durability for the 40nm process....especially the big dual fermi card...Besides which , you will still have the SLI hassles anyway.... The 28nm process will allow a single GPU to perform almost as fast as dual 40nm!	SolMiester (139)

1226771	2011-08-29 01:44:00	Depends what you mean by hassle, they still suffer by the micropause problem and games that don't support SLI. I regret going for 2 460s over one 480. I won't bother with SLI next time round. Believe it or not WoW on ultra drops down to 20-40 fps quite often on my dual 460s, and despite claims for SLI it is about the same if I turn it off. Most games do run awesomely though I have to admit. I also use dual 1080P monitors, but I only game on one of them and can't see the need for dual 480s. I was even considering abandoning SLI in favour of a single 570. On the originnal question, those cards are virtually identical, the one with the slight higher GPU clock would be very slightly faster but honestly I doubt you'd notice.	dugimodo (138)

The ASUS 590 has Voltage tweak, but TBH, I wouldnt touch it....the VRM's and power modules on these cards are very close to the edge as I said, doesnt take much to cook them..... edit - ATI should have new process GPU out by year end	SolMiester (139)
