1228455 2011-09-03 08:23:00 As you may know I have been having problems with Firefox 6.00 being slow and "Not Responding"

Whilst playing around I ran it in Safe mode !

I could not believe how fast it loads web pages !

As the Dilmah guy says "Do Try It"

You will be amazed and realise how much all the other stuff must slow things down.

To do it just go to Help / Restart with Add Ons Disabled.

1228456 2011-09-03 08:44:00 Nothing wrong with mine in normal mode, so maybe you should take a look at the add-ons you've got, clearly something is causing problems.

Not just Add-ons either, but things like Realplayer like to add their own plug-ins and stuff which seem a likely candidate for problems.

1228457 2011-09-03 14:15:00 Have you updated to 6.0.1 to see if that fixes the prob? otherwise it would most likely be a messed up install or as agent_24 said, plugins, etc Netsukeninja (13296)
1228458 2011-09-03 17:21:00 Ok, just tried Safe Mode and yes, FF 6.1 is much faster.

Which leaves me with a problem - I like my extensions. I don't have a lot but they are useful.

1228459 2011-09-03 20:05:00 Me too, I only have 3 extensions.
And aside from Java Console (which I cant seem to delete) they are all approved by Firefox.

1228460 2011-09-03 20:39:00 It is all a compromise. Your choice, speed or the conveniece gained by using an addon. Unless something is really slowing things down to a crawl, twice as fast means that it takes only one split second to load rather than taking two split seconds. CliveM (6007)
1228461 2011-09-03 20:57:00 Tried it - V5.0.
Slightly faster in Safe Mode - but not hugely. Guess it's what else you have in FF.......

1228462 2011-09-03 21:02:00 How many under plugins? I've got 4 extensions, but 10 (now 6 plugins) Speedy Gonzales (78)
1228463 2011-09-04 04:36:00 If its the add ons or extensions why was it OK under FF 5.00 ?

(I am quite happy to ditch them all except Foxmarks and Alexa.)

Remember when you run in Safe mode, it seems to disable the Firefox Menu system, which is sort of needed.

My guess would be something there is not fully compatible with the new version perhaps, and causing problems.

If it really doesn't seem like an add-on issue, have you tried backing up your bookmarks etc, and then doing a full reinstall as well as deletion of your old profile?
