1200413 2011-05-08 22:34:00 Still trying to figure out the best way of paying Joe for this effects pedal...from his end an international bank transfer isn't ideal, from my end sending a money order or Cheque (check for Joe) :) won't work.

I was thinking about using Paypal, the fees seem reasonable and it looks pretty easy - has anyone else used this and can comment on it? Thanks.

1200415 2011-05-08 22:55:00 Cool, would it be easy for Joe if I did the following...

'Send' him the money, and pay any necessary fees. I assume then Paypal sends him an email, with the info to transfer the money into his account?

Do you know if he would incur any fees for transferring the money into his account at his end, or am I able to specify that I pay all the fees when I 'send' him the money?

1200416 2011-05-09 00:28:00 I don't know if you can specify who pays the fees as an option, but you can choose the type of transfer (personal, purchase) which I think determines who pays the fees .

Help says:

What are the fees for receiving payments in other currencies?

What are the fees to receive payment from a different country?

In most cases we charge a fee to receive a payment from someone in another country . For specific information, see the fees section of our User Agreement .

Note: Unfortunately, we’ve had to stop allowing personal payments to be received from India . If you’re receiving money for a personal payment from India, we ask that you find another way to receive payment until we’re able to restore personal payments to this area .

1200417 2011-05-09 01:32:00 If you send there might be a currency exchange and a processing fee, of which either recepient or sender pays if you do not have sufficient funds in your Paypal account. So if the system has to then withdraw from your debit/credit card, then the fees apply. Assuming Joe has a Paypal account there is no withdrawal fee in the USA. But there are fees for NZ if less than $150 for withdrawal.

Screen shots below, from my account, shows fees and brief explanation. Though unclear whether if you need put in the NZ equivalent dollars, or the US dollars. I guess you could start with NZ equivalent dollars (might mean you need a currency converter). Nor unclear whether if a request would be made for either of you's to pay any processing fee before any transaction.

1200419 2011-05-09 03:04:00 Me here:

At this date I have only heard horror stories about PayPal international money exchanges, so I don't really know much more than that.

I also don't have a PayPal account and would like to see what that entails.

I'm all for accepting a personal NZ check (NZ= cheque) and have no trouble with that.

1200420 2011-05-09 04:30:00 I regularly use PayPal to receive donations for a webservice I host - never had a problem with it. In this case, I end up paying the transaction fee, not the donor. Erayd (23)
1200421 2011-05-09 07:37:00 Joe, find a friend in business who can process credit cards by just keying in the numbers (without having the card).

Get Wrat to send his CCard details, and pass the oney through this business.
Perhaps a small amount more could be added to the total for the intermediary businessman to be compensated, or to counter any taxes he may incur from the 'trade'.

1200422 2011-05-09 07:43:00 I would still recommend paypal for this. nedkelly (9059)
