2011-09-04 08:28:00 | thanks for that i shall take a copy of the image to get a qoute from moms work too :D... does anyone know if the Asus EAH5450 is a good card for gaming on? I have noticed some people say no its not, but i have also seen videos of it running Crysis 2 on high graphics but low resolution | xXjaspaXx (16525) | |
2011-09-04 09:03:00 | www.videocardbenchmark.net Its ok but the 550ti is better. The Asus card your talking about from elive is $184. The extra $17 for the 550 ti is definitely worth it imo (when compared, see link). | icow (15313) | |

2011-09-04 10:29:00 | do not, I repeat, do not skimp on the graphics card. Failing all else, get a motherboard with integrated graphics. Yes seriously. Then get a graphics card down the road. The money I spent on my CPU and graphics card was about equal, AFAIK they were about 300 dollars each at the time of my build, and that was comparitively cheap. The rather succinct analogy I've used before for this level of kit is that: "he's saying if you needed a cpu and only had the change that you would find hunting under the couch cushions, a sempron would be a good choice. Or perhaps a can of baked beans glued into the socket. Either would work at about the same efficiency. " I know this from experience. I went from a geforce 440mx to a 5500fx on the old PC. It didn't let me do anything new, or anything stellar. It just let me do what I could do at the time, but better. In retrospect, I should've saved the cash and spent it on the new build, or something. Because while it was cool having an extra couple FPS running through smoke grenades in CS1.6, it ultimately wasn't worth it. Same deal here. You would do better sticking with what you've got/what you're able to get now, and do a full BOOM upgrade later. If it's not going to make you go 'wow' for what you spend on it, then don't bother. edit - it seems you're looking at one with onboard graphics. I'm not sure if that'll be dedicated chip or on die with the CPU, but if the latter you'll need a specific CPU for that. If it's dedicated, then go for that for now. Upgrade to a card later.

2011-09-05 03:03:00 | Did you read the charts / articles I linked? they would pretty much have answered your graphics card questions. Maybe I got carried away and made too large a post? The gear you linked was all good except the graphics card as others have pointed out, the cheaper you go on graphics the sooner you'll find it won't play something. Go for 550Ti or 6770 as a minimum 560Ti or 6850 if you can afford it Should cover you for a while.

2011-09-05 03:56:00 | checked out the PSU in the PC it's only a 450W so unfortunatly will have to find another PSU Just make sure it's a good brand like Corsair, Enermax or Antec etc. Don't get cheap-ass PSUs like Solytech, Allied, Hyena. Remember, Thirty-Five Blue LEDs on a PSU does not make it a good PSU.

2011-09-05 05:44:00 | I think what 8ftmetalhead is trying to say is that your might be better to save your money and build bigger and better later or build a "base pc" which you can then chuck a massive gfx card and loads of ram in later. If you are dead set on a computer now i agree with dugimdoo. a 6770 will basically be the lowest you want to go for gaming (currently). A 6850, 560Ti or even a 460GTX (a bit dated now the other two are better) will set you back $300+. www.videocardbenchmark.net find the 6770 or 550ti here and if you want to check out a gfx card aim for higher up the list. BTW the tomshardware gfx card list is far better than that, look at that if you can find it.
