2011-05-07 09:13:00 | It is still fudging the figures when you have people on a special benefit but are technically unemployed and what is this crap about bagging ourselves. It's just a bit of truth. . Soooooo.... Australia's unemployment rate is really not 9% because of a major disaster in CHCH is that your point?. If you believe TV3 the other night there should be around 10K extra from CHCH on the unemployment list. If you add NZ sickness & CHCH onto the stated unemployment of 6.6% I calculator 7.5%. Lets keep in mind Aus is reporting to the world unemployment is a mere 4.9% atm, which is major cover up way beyond what NZ is misreporting. Sickness is counted as unemployed here. Invalids may not be. As for unemployment figures, you are not counted if you work - even if that is seasonal or 15 hrs a week. So really we have higher employment too, not counting Ch/ch. Aus counts part time work as employed too. Yes I tend to agree, I remember our Sickness benefit numbers around 100K at one point. I also agree NZ has some miss-reporting but 800,000 aussies out of 22.5 million on disability is astonishing, thee is no defending that.

2011-05-08 09:42:00 | In New Zealand WINZ do send unemployed people on courses. While on the course they are taken off the unemployment list and become students. This reduces the unemployment numbers even though they are being paid the Student benefit. | Bobh (5192) | |

I was being sarcastic, in other words this is a topic about Australia deliberately fudging there unemployment numbers by 80-90%. There is no controversy here, 800,000 on Aus disability is a verifiable fact. Aus also has other benefits just like NZ, however NZ is not mis-reporting any where near this level. |

2011-05-09 13:20:00 | I wouldn't know whether Australia is fudging its unemployment figures or not. Since we are suffering the most incompetent government (Labour of course, like Gough Whitland was) in living memory, it is possible - after all they are all spin and no substance, and sufficient people are stupid enough to believe whatever Labour says - The Labour Government is hell bent on destroying Australia's competitive advantage, by unilaterally introducing a Carbon tax, years ahead of anyone else, just to appease the lunatic Greens. But Labour/socialist governments world wide have a tract record of creating economic waste, and I guess we are just going to have to suffer it. In comparison NZ is doing real well with a Dollar Australian buying the pitiful amount of $NZ1.36.

2011-05-09 21:17:00 | I wouldn't know whether Australia is fudging its unemployment figures or not. ummmm 800,000+ on disability out of 22.5 million people when there is less than 600K on official unemployment. You dont know if Australia is fudging its unemployment numbers seriously?, I mean what proof would convince you a photo of some sort? BTW, I hope the $NZ goes lower against the $Aus. Aus is loosing the currency war to devalue, and it seems your government hasn't caught on to what the US, China, Europe are doing. I have to agree with your bottom line the Gillard government seems clueless.
