1229713 2011-09-08 07:34:00 Hey guys,
I'm looking to build a new pc, but all I need is a mother board, CPU, and RAM
The motherboard needs to be 20 pin, 4 pin connections, have agp graphics connection. Also, I need ddr2 mem, and for it to be capable to handle dual core cpus.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

1229714 2011-09-08 07:38:00 I doubt you can buy a new motherboard with ddr2 support now. Also ddr2 is more expensive than ddr3 iirc. If your buying ram why not just get ddr3 and save some money? Also do you want AGP because you have a agp gfx card you want to use? If so:
1) I doubt you can buy a new agp board
2) chances are the intergrated gfx will be better than your agp card anyway. (what is it?)
DO you have a budget? what are you intending on using the computer for?

1229715 2011-09-08 07:44:00 yep, I already have the agp graphics card, its a nvidea 9600 i think... only problem is i want to upgrade, and the MB is realllllly old. cant fork out for a new graphics card, but realise that i need cpu, mb and ram. the main things are AGP connection and power supply, seeing as i just got a new supply. but also, cant afford a reallllly good cpu, so an I3 would be the of thing im looking for.

also, I have ddr mem, which is why i also want to upgrade.

1229717 2011-09-08 07:57:00 If you want socket 775, you could get something like this (www.edencomputers.co.nz). Its got VGA if you're not too fussy. And the same place sell the CPU / a 3.06ghz for 104 inc GST. If youre in NZ Speedy Gonzales (78)
1229718 2011-09-08 07:57:00 is your gfx car this? www.nvidia.com thats pci-e.
If not could you find out what your gfx card is. I'm trying to work out whether integrated might be a better option.

1229719 2011-09-08 08:02:00 AGP??!! It was obsolete 1000 years ago.
Be modern.

You want PCI-E, if you can't stretch to a new GPU at present, get a board with onboard graphics and a PCI-E slot and add one later.
Todays onboard is probably as good as an old AGP card anyway now.

And it will be DDR3 RAM.

1229720 2011-09-08 08:09:00 Well I don't have a big budget (as you know jared :) ) but I'm not looking for a brand new pc, but i would like it to have decent gaming capacity. Right now I have a "shudder" Amd sempron 2800... skeptile2 (16539)
1229721 2011-09-08 08:13:00 Sorry, I don't know the exact model, but its definetly agp. Also, I'm 14, so I dont exactly have a massive budget. I was thinkingabout an integrated board + graphics, I guess it depends which is cheaper for what you get. skeptile2 (16539)
1229722 2011-09-08 08:17:00 Get like a $80 Asus board. Then buy a gpu later.
