| 1229132 | 2011-09-06 06:32:00 | Hey, So I'm having a look at this laptop and it has some sort of a virus on it. No files show up in C:\ drive through explorer. Using the command line 'dir' works in some directories, hardly any. Same in safe mode. If I look at the space on C:\ it still shows about 50% free, so the data is still there by the looks of it. What I've done so far: 1. mbyte scan 2. cccleaner 3. sfc /scannow 4. windows repair 5. there are no restore points to go back to If someone can take a look at the hijackthis log that would be great, this is my last attempt at fixing before I rebuild it :) Thanks in advance. | 1229133 | 2011-09-06 06:45:00 | Is Trend Micro a firewall as well? If it is , remove it or Mcafee. You dont need this O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ProductReg] "C:\Program Files\Acer\WR_PopUp\ProductReg.exe" O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file) What makes you think there's a virus on it? Run tdsskiller, see if you've got a rootkit (support.kaspersky.com). Is it crashing? I would install SP3 sometime as well. I would uninstall this C:\Program Files\Trusteer\Rapport\bin\RapportService.exe. Looks like this is a memory hog |

| 1229134 | 2011-09-06 06:47:00 | Seen this infection several times -- there is no "fix" for it, as the infection really screws the system, repair installs dont work - easiest fix is to unhide the folders/files, copy the data to another Drive, reinstall windows. Theres a link in the 1st post From Bleeping computer (www.technibble.com) - run that, it will take a while but all your files and folders will be visible ( or should) to copy the data off. |

| 1229136 | 2011-09-06 09:07:00 | Thanks for the replies guys. Results below: 1. tdsskiller came back clean 2. I've removed those two entries 3. removed Trend Micro 4. used Revo Uninstaller to remove Rapport, although still shows entries in log below The computer is not crashing. Resetting all the folder settings to default at least shows all the programs now, although they are all hidden :) I'll run the software suggested next. On the Desktop there are still no icons and I cannot right click on it or drag-select with the mouse. | 1229137 | 2011-09-06 09:15:00 | Assuming its the same type of infection (may or may not be) that is a real PITA to repair, if you click on start , all programs you may find some or many dont open, if this is the case its because the links to the actual exe files are misdirected, and while they can be recreated you would have to go through each and every one, not only in all programs, but accessories, system tools and the rest of the sub folders as well all that run off of the all programs list. | wainuitech (129) | ||
| 1229138 | 2011-09-06 09:29:00 | So I ran unhide.exe and that has pretty much fixed it all now that the hidden files were showing. I'll try opening a few programs etc but everything I've opened so far (system tools, gpedit, cmd...) all opened fine. Apart from TrendMicro it seems to also have McAfee and FSecure installed, sigh. |
